Sardis vice-mayor Roy Scallorn, acting mayor while Mayor Rusty Dye recuperates from illness, introduced the new chief.

Scallorn thanked Panola County Sheriff Otis Griffin for assuming responsibilities of police chief since that position became vacant approximately 11 months ago.

Deal said, “If you ever need anything just call me. The police are there for you. Don’t hesitate to call.”

Dennis Dye, vice-president of Sardis Chamber of Commerce, also welcomed Deal and also gave thanks to Sheriff Griffin for serving the city in recent months.

Dye told Deal, “We are real happy to have you.”
