AMARILLO – Ella Doris Bailey Gilley, 71, died Monday, November 14, 2011, in Amarillo, Texas. She was formerly of Crowder and Marks.

Memorial services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Locke Station Baptist Church.

Gilley was born on January 18, 1940, near Crowder, to the late Florie and Walter Bailey of Locke Station.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Gilley.

Survivors include four children Ricky Melton of Amarillo;   Teresa Chavez and Terry Melton, both of Memphis and Eddie Melton of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, James Bailey of Locke Station, and Eugene Bailey of Batesville; two sisters, Jeanette Hannah of Locke Station, and Kristen Mitchell of Crowder; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  

MEMPHIS – W.L. “Lee” Burks Sr., 71, died Friday, November 18, 2011, from a four-wheeler accident near Rolling Fork.

Memorial services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Crowder Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Kilgore officiating. Wells Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

W.L. was born in Pope to William Boyd and Ruby Rogers Burks. Lee and his wife, Bonnie founded Batesville Retread Center 16 years ago. He was a member of the LaBelle Baptist Church of Memphis.
Survivors include: his wife Bonnie Turner Burks of Memphis; one daughter Letitia Burks O’Lane of Ocean Shores, Wash.; one son, William Lee Burks Jr. of Hernando; one brother Tommy Burks of Hernando and five grandchildren

COLLIVERVILLE, Tenn. – Shirley Cook, 72, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, at Central Church located at 2005 Winchester Blvd., Collierville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday morning. Rev. Phil Dawson will be officiating. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Cook was born November 18, 1938 in Belmont, to the late Clyde R. and Ernestine Thompson Yarber. She was a retired banker and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Iuka.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Edwin Mink of Golden.

Survivors include: her husband, Porter Eugene “Gene” Cook, of Collerville; three sons, Billy Mink and Rob Mink of Jackson, and Jeff Mink of Collierville; two step-daughters, Julie Cook Appleton of Batesville, and Portia Cook Tye of Elkin, West Virginia; two half-brothers, Joey Yarber and Jay Yarber of Alambama; 12 grandchildren,

MARKS- Albert Oliver Jones, 88, died Monday, November 14, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Thursday at West Marks Baptist Church. Kenneth Boyette officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Jones, born Sept. 18, 1923, in Kentucky, was a retired farmer and a mechanic. He was a member of West Marks Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of Word War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Draughon Jones.

Survivors include: two daughters, Ann Suddath of Marvell, Ark., Kathy Wilson of Batesville; two sons, Robert Allen Jones of Marks and Billy Jones of Crowder; one sister, Margaret Faulkner of Batesville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

GRENADA– Cathy Renee Lee, 42, died Friday November 18, 2011, at Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 5 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Lucian Young will officiate.

Cathy was born February 19, 1969, in Marks, to Edward Lee Maynard and the late Sherry Jean Adams Marberry. She was a member of Crowder Baptist Church and worked as a certified nurse’s assistant for many years.

Along with her mother, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Benny Marberry.

In addition to her father, she is survived by: two sisters, Bonnie Marberry Winters of Grenada, Barbara Gail Hollingsworth of Jackson; three brothers, Dwayne Marberry of Grenada, Charles Anthony Marberry of Charleston, Eddie Maynard of Ripley, Tenn.; step-mother, Linda Maynard of Ripley; her grandmothers, Irene Burt of Batesville,  and Mary Ann Adams of New Hebron.

Family requests memorial contributions in Cathy’s memory to be sent to Lebonheur Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

COMO – Raymond H. Vunk, 65, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia.  

Funeral services will be private at the family’s request. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Graciela Vunk of Como; three daughters, Elizabeth Vunk, Margaret Vunk of Muscatine, Iowa and Virginia Vunk of Tennessee; two sons, Raymond Vunk Jr. of Memphis and Jonathan Vunk of Tennessee; one brother, Robert Vunk of Memphis, and three grandchildren.
