Municipal judge refers felony shoplifting case to grand jury

Judge Jay Westfaul referred  four felony cases to the grand jury during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.

Rene Wilson, 2057 Sanders, Sardis, was referred to the grand jury for felony shoplifting. She bonded out prior to court.

Danny Corley, 394 Greenbriar, Courtland, was referred to the grand jury for felony domestic violence.

Obarcus Pryor, 6015 Kennedy Rd., Jackson, was referred to the grand jury for felony false pretenses, possession of marijuana in a vehicle, driving while license suspended.

Brenda Jackson was referred to the grand jury for petit larceny, burglary, false information, shoplifting and false identity.

She also had old fines of $2,296 that have been due since 2002. That case was continued.

Brandon Taylor, 111 Jackson, Batesville, had simple assault charges dismissed after the affiant, Jeremy Wright failed to appear.

Jerrica Hamilton, 12083 Curtis Rd., Batesville, was found not guilty of two counts of simple assault due to lack of evidence.

Sabrina Barksdale, 27 Ramsey Circle, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting. She was fined $1,124.

Jason Holloway, 2574 Sardis Lake, Sardis, entered a guilty plea to accessory to shoplifting. He was fined $624.

William Holloway, 259-A Henry Heafner, Sardis, had a shoplifting case continued.

Alton McCain, 16 Pecan Grove, Batesville, had a warrant issued for his arrest after failing to appear to answer possession of marijuana charges.

Debra Sayle, 1184 Riverview, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to abusing members of police, simple possession of controlled substance and resisting arrest. She will be represented by Attorney Helen Kelly.

Portia Henderson, 126 Patterson, Batesville, was sentenced to 30 days in jail after failing to pay old fines of $466 that have been due since May 2011. She was told she could be released from  jail after she paid the fines.

Robert Box, Box 1 Sign Shop, Tillatoba, had old fines of $541 that have been due since June 2011. He told the judge he paid the fines. Once he pulled his receipts they showed he paid fines for other charges.

The judge told him to have his fines paid in full by Wednesday.

Cases set for trial

Angela Chapman, 126 Dell St., Batesville, had a case continued for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She hired attorney Helen Kelly.
She had a simple assault charge dismissed after the affiant failed to appear.

Christopher Webster, 754 Tubbs, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault. He was fined $395.

Darius Barksdale, represented by attorney Tom Womble. entered a guilty plea to simple assault and was fined $295.

Nicholas Warren, 201 Vick St., Batesville, had a case for DUI continued.

Aelecia Flowers, 14312 Ballentine Rd., Sardis, paid her fines of $304 in full prior to court for open container.

Karen Rudd, 10906 Curtis Rd., Batesville, paid her fines of $304 in full prior to court for open container.

A.Z. Moore, 200 B Lester, Batesville, paid fines of $204 in full for public drunk.

Samuel Kendall, 126 Hemlock, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault.  A trial was set for October 18.
