ND pee wee defeats West Memphis

The North Delta 5th and 6th grade peewee football team picked up their first win of the season with a 28-8 victory over West Memphis, Ark. Tuesday afternoon at Green Wave Field.

Kaleb Joyner scored on a pair of touchdowns as North Delta built a 22-0 halftime lead.The Green Wave defense forced two turnovers while holding West Memphis to only two first downs in the game.

Jack Evans led the Wave with five tackles followed by Thomas Jenkins, Peyton Neal, Cole DeVazier, Luke Noah and Reid Rushing all with three stops each. Jake Ray, Chris Burchfield, C. J. Bickerstaff and Sam Sullivan all registered two tackles while Miles Garner, Slade Aldison and Gavin Thetford chipped in with one tackle.

Noah also recorded an interception and Braxton Bailey recovered a fumble.
Neal got the North Delta offense rolling with a four-yard scoring run around left end  at the 6:59 mark of the first quarter to make the score 6-0 after the two-point conversion failed.

After the Black Knights went three-and-out on their first drive, Joiner raced 60 yards on the first play from scrimmage to expand the Wave lead to 14-0 as Neal connected with DeVazier for the two-point completion.

North Delta rounded out the scoring in the second quarter, Kaleb Joyner took a toss sweep into the end zone followed by Neal’s two-point run for a 22-0 lead. DeVazier then took a short pass from Neal and raced 60-yard for the touchdown in the third quarter.

West Memphis avoided the shutout with 2:58 remaining in the contest as Mitchell Marconi scored on a short touchdown with Porter Bird adding the two-point attempt.

The Green Wave will be back in action Tuesday when they host Lee Academy.
