BATESVILLE – Delma Carpenter, 83, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at her residence.
Services were held Monday at Wells Funeral Home with graveside services at Memory Hill Gardens in Memphis. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Carpenter, born Nov. 27, 1927, in Truman, Tenn., to the late Jessie and Versia Fay Dugan Halfacre, was a homemaker and member of First Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Tommy Carpenter of Bartlett, Tenn. and Mike Carpenter of Horn Lake; sisters, Goldie Halfacre Cooke of Collierville, Tenn. and Helen Halfacre Cecil of Memphis; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Opal Irene Finley Jones
LAMBERT – Opal Irene Finley Jones, 73, died Friday, June 17, 2011, at her residence.
Services were held Sunday, June 19, at First Baptist Church of Lambert. Rev. Don O’Quin officiated. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Jones, born April 24, 1938, in Lambert, was a member of First Baptist Church of Lambert and a member of the Pacemaker Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: her husband, William R. Jones; one son, William R. Jones Jr. of Lambert; two daughters, Donna Wilkinson of Tablequah, Okla. and Lynn Jones Robertson of Courtland; three sisters, Doris Wright of Batesville, Lois Veazy of Oxford, Rosa Fay Goode of Lambert; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International or First Faith Baptist Church of Lambert, P.O. Box 145, Lambert, Miss.
Brenda Clair Phillips Higgs
SARDIS – Brenda Clair Phillips Higgs, 53, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at her residence.
Services were held Monday at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Paul Middleton officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Higgs, born Aug. 23 1957, in Pheonix, Ariz. to Aubrey L. and Annie Clair Joiner Moore, was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Joseph “Mike” Phillips and her mother, Annie Clair Joiner Moore.
Survivors include: her husband, Billy R. Higgs of Sardis; two daughters, Adrianne Phillips Lovelady and Kimberly Phillips of Batesville; two step-daughters, Shannon Higgs McCollough of Courtland and Logan Higgs Willis of Pope; her father, Rev. Aubrey L. Moore of Batesville; one sister, Nancy Moore Hughes of Batesville; two brothers, Robert Moore of Pheonix, Ariz. and Phillip Moore of Batesville and six grandchildren.
Sandra Drake Milam
BATESVILLE – Sandra Drake Milam, 66, died Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
Milam, born Jan. 26, 1945, to the late Joseph David “J.D.” and Ella Dulin Drake in New Orleans, La. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Servivors include: her daughter, Scarlett Miller Ross and her husband, Christ of Batesville; one son, John Miller Jr. and his wife, Suzan of Senatobia; one sister, Candace Drake Belk and her husband Raymond of Batesville and five grandchildren.
Geneva Thompson
SARDIS – Geneva “Dear” Thompson, 89, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at her residence.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. W.O. McKinney will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon – 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home in Sardis.
She was a retired cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Thompson.
Survivors include: seven daughters, Bessie Bobo and Jennie Brown, both of Sardis, Norma Jean Thompson, Grace Thompson, Annie Thompson, Alae Mae Thompson and Helen Thompson, all of Memphis; two sons, Ellis Thompson of Sardis and Elbert Thompson of Memphis; one sister, Eva Mae Webb of Sardis; 45 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-great-grandchildren.
Carl Bernard Young
BATESVILLE – Carl Bernard Young, 40, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Hope M.B. Church in Batesville. Richard Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and on Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Young, born Oct. 1, 1970, in Batesville, to George Rufus Young Sr. and Eva Louise Houston Young, was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Cardarius McMurray of Courtland and Darius Smith of Batesville; three sisters, Eva Young, Ethel Davis and Mattie Poole, all of Batesville and two brothers, George Young Jr. and Robert Lee Young, both of Batesville.
