Lela A. Knox Brown

BATESVILLE– Lela A. Knox Brown, 90, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Pastor Walter Newson will officiate. Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Brown, born Aug. 4, 1920, to the late Jim Knox and Stella Ward, was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis.

Survivors include: five daughters, Delia Fondren, Minnie Richardson, Rosie Williams and Margaret Pride, all of Batesville and Ordean Rhodes of Chicago; four sons, Johnny Brown, Charles Brown, Roger Brown and Leon Ballentine of Milwaukee; one sister, Lillie Mae Knox of Milwaukee; 43 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Debra Ann Green

POPE– Debra Ann Green, 52, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Coldwater.

She was a member of LaBelle Haven Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Polly Ann Green.

Survivors incude: her father, Henry L. Green of Pope; one sister, Betty Rushing Harvey of Senatobia.

The family requests that any memorials be made to Liberty Hill Church in Pope.

Brenda Jean Oliver

BATESVILLE– Brenda Jean Oliver, 43, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Pastor George Golden will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Oliver, born May 29, 1967, to Robert Lee Oliver and Betty Jean Thomas, was a cook for Wal-Mart and a member of Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Kimberly Ann Oliver and Candice Marie Oliver, both of Batesville; one son, Willie James Oliver of Oxford; two sisters, Barbara Hentz and Jean Burt, both of Courtland; three brothers, Robert Lee Oliver Jr. of Chicago, Adam Oliver of Batesville and Renzell Oliver of Sardis and one grandchild.

Cynthia Rena Smalley

BATESVILLE– Cynthia Rena Smalley, 37, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Bishop E.M. Fondren will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Smalley, born Sept. 14, 1973, to Thomas Smalley of Charleston and Bernice Ard Smalley Mister of Batesville, was a member of Deliverane Tabernacle Pentecostal Church.

Survivors along with her parents include: her son, Kenyada C. Smalley of Batesville; her step-father, Buford Mister of Batesville; her grandmother, Annie Lee Smalley of Enid; four sisters, Debra Johnson of Pope, Audrey Johnson, Sharon Harmon and Angela Smalley, all of Batesville; one sister, Angela Smalley of Batesville and one brother, Thomas Smalley Jr.

Larry Smith Jr.

COMO– Larry Smith Jr., 31, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held at noon on Saturday at the PGA Building. Burial will be at Hammond Hill Cemetery in Como. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include: his mother, Bertha Phillip Smith; one sister, Wanda Turner of Summerville, S.C. and one brother, Terry Lee Smith of Boston, Mass.

Maedean Smith Turner

MEMPHIS– Maedean Smith Turner, 72, formerly of Batesville, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be held on Saturday 10 a.m. at New Mt. Sinai M.B. Church in Memphis, with burial at New Providence Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Water Valley.

Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at N.H. Owens and Son Funeral Home in Memphis.

Turner was a graduate of Davidson High School and a member of New Providence Missionary Baptist Church of Water Valley before relocating to Memphis.

She was preceded in death by one son: Rickey Turner and her parents: Mr. Odis Smith and Izola Hawkins-Price.

Survivors include: her children: Roderick, Cynthia, Prince, Jacqueline and Deborah of Memphis; one Sister, Betty Lark of Memphis, three brothers, Arthur Smith of Water Valley, Nathaniel Price and James Price of Memphis.

Cornelius Wells

BATESVILLE– Cornelius Wells, 24, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, in Water Valley.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Carl Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Courtland. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Wells, born Nov. 24, 1986, in Batesville, to Billy Joe Lee of Batesville and Betty Jean Wells of Batesville, was a factory worker.

Survivors along with his parents include: one daughter, Illiana Wells of Batesville; his grandmother, Irby Jean Lee of Courtland; three sisters, Carmen Wells, Yasmine Hines and Latasha Turner, all of Batesville and two brothers, BurJun Byers of Joplin, Mo. and Ladarius Hines of Batesville.
