Edward James Chidester

SARDIS– Edward James Chidester, 65, passed away May 6, 2011, after a long battle with lymphoma.

Survivors include: his daughter, Catherine Ann and his son-in-law, Sean Deeney; and his two granddaughters, Anna and Camille. He also leaves his sisters, Linda Chidester and Fluffy (Vergie) Jacquess and his brother, Michael Chidester.

 He was an avid hunter, fisherman, motorcyclist, farmer, businessman, and member of the Coast Guard.

Services were  held Thursday, May 12 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3245 Central Avenue, Memphis. The funeral mass was Friday, May 13 at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be sent to Madonna Learning Center 7007 Poplar Ave Germantown, TN or Innocent’s Episcopal Church P.O. Box 391, Como, 38619.

Marvin Johnson

BATESVILLE– Marvin Johnson, 88, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be held Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Thursday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Johnson, born Aug. 7, 1922, in Batesville, to Alfred Johnson and Sallie Morris, was a farmer and a member of Macedonia M.B. Church where he was a deacon, church clerk and treasurer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include: his wife, Alice Ruth Johnson of Batesville; three daughters, Cynthia Johnson Benford of Parchman, Cheryl Zimbalkin of Asheville, N.C. and Idella Ware of Elhart, Ind.; four sons, Michael Johnson of Memphis, Kenneth Johnson of Madison, Reginald Johnson of Ft. Collins, Color. and Edgar Byron Johnson of Burnswick, Ga.; one sister, Glennie Houston of Tillatoba; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
