ROBINSONVILLE– Nat L. Doyle, 71, formerly of Batesville, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at his residence.
Services will be held today at noon at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Shelby Doyle will officiate. Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Doyle, born Aug. 26, 1939, in Marks, to Amos Doyle and Sadie Brown Doyle, was a bartender and a construction worker.
Survivors include: one daughter, Belinda Fayelynn of Chicago; one step-daughter, Shirley Davis of Dolton, Ill.; two step-sons, Bruce Hixon and Tyron Hixon, both of Chicago; four sisters, Lula B. Smiley, Doretha Jones Travis and Billie Jean Haven, all of Memphis, Mary Jennings of Glennwood; two brothers, Robert Doyle of Oxford and Rev. Shelby Doyle of Memphis; his great-grandson who cared for him, Darrell Marshall; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mildred S. Edwards
MARKS–Mildred S. Edwards, 86, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Quitman County Hospital. She was the sister of Van Sanders of Batesville.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Valley Queen Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Ruth will officiate. Burial will be in Belmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Allen Chapel Church in Marks. Delta Burial has charge.
Edwards, born March 25, 1925, in Sardis, was a business owner and a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Sennett Edwards and her grandson, James Edwards III.
Survivors along with her brother include: one son, Jimmy S. Edwards of Marks; one sister, Zelma Hall of Memphis; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Willie Green
BATESVILLE–Willie Green, 91, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Golden Living Center.
Graveside services were held Wednesday at Batesville Cemetery. George McDaniel officiated. Burial was in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Green, born Jan. 15, 1920, in Arkansas, to Preston Green and Ludie Green, was a former employee of Wayne Feed Store in Charleston.
He is survived by the staff of Golden Living Center.
Siller Bell Menzie
BATESVILLE–Siller Bell Menzie, 97, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at her residence.
Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Arthur Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.
Menzie, born March 29, 1914, to Sam Menzie and Ella Vaughn, was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Evia M.B. Church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Queen Ester Chapter No. 18.
Survivors include: one daughter, Lue Bertha James of St. Louis; six sons, Charles Riley, Johnny Menzie and Henry Menzie, all of Batesville, Earl Jones of Pontotoc, T.J. Riley and Eugene Riley, both of Chicago; three sisters, Irene Griffin of Batesville, Lottie Dell James of Tunica and Everlee Warren of Kansas City, Mo.; a host of grandchildren; host of great-grandchildren, host of great-great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-great-grandchildren.
Charles Smith Jr.
SARDIS–Charles Smith Jr., 61, died Friday, May 6, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Shiloh C.M.E. Church in Sardis. Pastor Walter Fleming will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Vistiation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.
Smith, born Feb. 15, 1950, in Sardis, to Charlie Smith and Daisy Lee Gordon Smith, was a security guard for Cobra Security and a member of Shiloh C.M.E. Church.
Survivors include: one son, Charles Smith III of Chicago; six sisters, Mae Gretha Parker of Memphis, Dorothy Jones of Storm Lake, Iowa, Bobbie Jackson, Bertha Kinsey, Gloria Smith and Gracie Harvey, all of Chicago; two brothers, Willis Gordon and Odis Smith, both of Sardis and three grandchildren.
