Letter to the editor

Batesville, state souvenirs needed for friends in Texas

I have lived in Mississippi, mostly Panola County, for at least 45 years. We moved to Texas a couple of years ago for employment.

Since I now work in Texas in long term care, I get asked every time I go home to bring back “something from Mississippi.”

I looked from Jackson to Batesville during a recent visit for Mississippi tee shirts. I finally found a few at Cracker Barrel. I found Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Panola tee shirts, and as proud of these schools as we are, Texas people don’t know a lot about our schools. Maybe they need to know, but they really want Mississippi items.

I would have thought that Mississippi and Batesville would have items for outsiders to take back home with them. I feel like we are letting Mississippi tourism slide when we should be happily promoting our wonderful state.

When we were with the Lions Club, Mississippi club members put out their southern belle lapel pins and everywhere we traveled people begged for those pins.

We have a wonderful, beautiful state (especially in the springtime) and we should share our state with others. Please feel free to share this concern with people that might make a change.
