McBride plans to run for Northern District Highway Commissioner

District 11 Representative Warner McBride of Courtland is planning a run for  Northern District Highway Commissioner to fill the unexpired term of  his friend Bill Minor of Holly Springs who died November 1.

McBride, who chairs the House Transportation Committee, said Monday  that he plans on making a public announcement to run after the  governor sets the election date. An election is likely to be held in January to replace Minor, who was first elected to represent the
northern third of the state in 2003.

State law says the governor has 15 days from the vacancy to set the election date and that it must be within 60 days of the proclamation.

Among individuals rumored to be considering the job other than  McBride are Appalachian Regional Commission Director Mike Armour;  former Tupelo Mayor Glenn McCullough; former state Sen. Bill Renick;  retired Northern District Transportation Commissioner Zach Stewart;  Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Southaven; Southaven Mayor Greg Davis; and state Rep. Brian Aldridge, R-Tupelo.
