The 11-and-12-year old Batesville Tiger team hosted the Sardis Falcons in the final game of the regular season Saturday.
Batesville won the game 8-0 as both teams advanced to the playoffs next Saturday. The Tigers will play Charleston at 3:15 p.m. in Charleston.
It was a scoreless game at halftime. Batesville fumbled its first possession and the Falcons recovered in the first quarter. The defense was hot for both teams in the second quarter. Sardis forced Batesville to turn the ball over on downs on its on its lone possession in the quarter.
Sardis’ Marvin Adams hurried Batesville quarterback Cornelius Lee to force the ball to go incomplete.
On Batesville defense, D. J. Hall got the team’s first sack for a five-yard loss in the second quarter. O’Bryan Goodson got his first sack of the day for a three yard loss. He had two in the game.
In the third quarter, the Falcons fumbled on their own 34-yard line and the Tigers recovered and ran it back to the 15-yard line. With 5:09 left in the third quarter, Hall broke for a 15-yard touchdown run up the middle for the only score of the game. The two-point conversion by Robert Hentz was good for the 8-0 lead.
Batesville will host the second round of the playoffs next Saturday, November 6 and the Super Bowl on November 13.
