Lady Wave win streak increases to 11

Neither a horde of invading insects nor Magnolia Heights could slow down the bats of North Delta  as the Lady Green Wave stretched their season long winning streak to 11 games with a 12-5 five-ining victory over the Chiefs Wednesday night.

With the win, North Delta improves to 17-3-1 on the year. The Green Wave will travel to Bayou Academy in Cleveland Monday afternoon to take on the Colts beginning at 4 p.m. with varsity action then closes out the regular season at home Tuesday with Marshall beginning at 5 p.m. with the Junior Varsity.

North Delta plated three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Vicky Johnson and Julianna Morrow led off the frame by reaching on a walk and single. Johnson scored the first run by scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bradi Beard. After Morrow raced home on a wide pitch, Erin Snider ripped a triple into left center field and later scored on a two-out error. Snider added a single and  three-run triple while driving in four runs on the night.

Magnolia Heights battled back to tie the game at three in the second inning on two hits and an error. Kimberly Austin and Codi Faulkner delivered run-producing singles while Delaney Miller scored on an attempted rundown to knot the game.

North Delta retook the lead in the bottom of the frame with five runs on three hits. Courtney DuBravec and Johnson walked to start the rally. DuBravec made the score 4-3 after coming home on a wild pitch, before Hastings Neal walked to load the bases with no outs.

Beard then put the game out of reach by unloading a triple into left field that scored three runs. Snider followed with a sharp single to drive in Beard for an 8-3 Green Wave lead.

The Chiefs added two runs in the third on Miller’s two-run single off North Delta starting pitcher Mary Jane Morrow but was thrown out at second base to end the inning. North Delta put the game away in bottom of the third with four runs on two hits with Snider’s bases loaded triple being the key hit in the inning.

Beard registered a triple and drove in five runs to lead the Green Wave nine-hit attack. Julianna Morrow added a pair of singles while Madison Greenlee, Mary Jane Morrow and DuBravec chipped in a single each. Mary Jane Morrow scattered five hits to pick up the pitching win.

North Delta took one more step in securing the District 1-AA title with a 10-1 road win at Indianola Tuesday night. Snider knocked in three runs on a triple and single while Beard added a double and two RBI’s. Laci DuBravec contributed with two singles while Hastings Neal and Mary Jane Morrow added singles.
