Charles Emmett Brown

MARKS– Charles Emmett Brown, 77, formerly of Crenshaw, died Sunday, August 22, 2010.

Services were Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Marks. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Rev. James Tidwell officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Brown, born Oct. 16, 1932,  in Crenshaw, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marks and retired from Red Panther Corporation.

Survivors include: his wife, Lillie Virginia Buckner Brown; one daughter, Carol Brown Mitchell of Marks; one brother, Joe M. Brown of Marks; one sister, Bobbie B. Sorrells of Crenshaw; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ira Lee Burdette

COLDWATER– Ira Lee Burdette, 44, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Baptist-DeSoto Hospital.

Services were Thursday, August 26 at Zion Hill M.B. Church in Coldwater with burial in the church cemetery.

Rodgers Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Burdette was a mechanic.

He is survived by his parents Clara Bernice Clark and Ira Houston Burdette of Sardis; one son Ira Lee Burdette Jr., of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven sisters, Caroline Porter, Vera Lynn Burdette and Jennie Burdette, all of Memphis, Christine Burdette and Patricial Burdette of Sardis, Rochelle Faulkner of Senatobia and Shanta Yuvette Street of Como; five brothers, Eugene Burdette and Ira Donnell Burdette and Perterrio Harris, all of Sardis, Freddie Lee Burdette of Memphis, and James Nonalee of St. Louis.

Lula Davis

COLDWATER– Lula Davis, 59, died Monday August 23. 2010.

Services will be held Saurday, August 28, at 1 p.m. At Beulah Baptist Church in Como. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Rodgers Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Davis was a retired factory worker.

Survivors include one daugher, Sherry Ann Davis of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Tyrone Davis of Charleston; seven sisters, Mary Ella Avant and Malvenia Dean, both of Senatobia, Shirley Frazier of Tunica, Katie Loveberry, Elorency Hill, Olla Mae Holloway, and Georgia Davis, all of Chicago; three brothers, Avester Davis, Tommie Davis and Eldridge Davis, all of Memphis; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Lizzie Thomas Ford

BATESVILLE– Lizzie Thomas Ford, 89, died Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Salem M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Larry Itson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Salem M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Ford, born Dec. 25, 1920, in Courtland, to Roy Ford and Ida Sanford, was a homemaker and a member of Salem M.B. Church.

Survivors include her brother, Joe Ford of Courtland and niece who cared for her, Bobby Ann McMurry.

Leonard Smith

OAKLAND–Leonard Smith, 55, died Friday, August 20, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Parrish Grove M.B. Church in Oakland. Rev. Grady McKinney Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Smith, born July 14, 1955, to Henry Smith and Janie Lee Holland Smith, both of Oakland, was a member of Parrish Grove M.B. Church in Oakland. He was employed at BorgWarner Automotive.

Survivors along with his parents include: two daughters, Vickie Kent of Memphis and Demethria Forrest of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, Sharbour Ray and Evlon Johnson, both of Memphis; four sisters, Sandy Phillips, Lottie Patterson, Lurine Johnson and Nancy Blackburn, all of Oakland; six brothers, Henry Smith Jr., Terry Smith, Gregory Smith and Rodric Smith, all of Oakland, Jimmy Smith of Coffeeville and Kenneth Smith of Racine, Wis. and three grandchildren.
