The North Delta fast pitch softball team took a short trek to Grenada over the weekend and came away with a split of two games in the Kirk tournament.

In the first game late Friday night, the Green Wave fell to Carroll Academy 4-1 before rebounding Saturday to take a 4-1 win over Magnolia Heights.

Madison Greenlee accounted for North Delta’s lone run against Carroll with a run-scoring single in the second inning that scored courtesy runner Hannah Heafner. Vicky Johnson led North Delta at the plate with a double and single followed by Hastings Neal with a triple.

Laci DuBravec rounded out the hit parade with a single. Mary Jane Morrow gave up three runs in the first inning and was tagged with the loss. Freshmen Peyton Rico surrendered one run in four solid innings of relief.

The Green Wave bats came to life in Saturday’s victory over Magnolia Heights as Johnson produced a triple and single in the winning effort.

DuBravec followed with a double and single while Bradi Beard, Erin Snider, Greenlee and Maribeth Johns all recorded singles. Morrow held the Chiefs to a single run while picking up the win in the pitching circle.

North Delta will begin defense of their District 1-AA championship tonight as they visit Kirk  at 5 with the varsity contest followed by the Junior Varsity at 6:30.
