The 6A defending state champions South Panola Tigers will once again be in the spotlight in a televised game when they take on  the Tupelo Golden Wave on October 15 on Tupelo’s home turf. The announcement was made at a press conference held in Tupelo Tuesday morning by TV sponsor Cellular South.

The second season of the popular “Y’all vs. Us” high school football rivalry program will be televised live by FOX Sports South. The series features prime time television broadcasts of five of the oldest and biggest high school football rivalries in Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama.

The Tigers hosted the Olive Branch Conquistadors last season on October 2 winning 34-6 in the first “Y’all vs. Us” game for both teams.

The Tigers hold a huge part of Mississippi high school football history after winning 89 games in a row, the third longest win streak in the history of American high school football. Two years ago Tupelo nearly ended South Panola’s winning streak, but failed to score on a two point conversion with less than a minute left in the game. South Panola won that showdown 14-13.

South Panola Head Coach Lance Pogue said, “This adds to what the team has been able to accomplish with their background and the progress they’ve made through the years in the football program at South Panola…It’s a lot of fun and you still get the opportunity to advertise South Panola and Batesville. Anytime you get that chance, it’s a great deal. We’re very proud of our football team and we have a lot of respect for Tupelo football. It was a great football game two years ago.”

Tupelo Head Coach David Bradberry said he thinks it’s going to be exciting.

“People have been shooting at South Panola for the last 8 years and I’ve been dealing with them for a long time when I was at Clinton years ago and then at Greenwood before that. South Panola is a program that is nationwide and gets a lot of publicity. A lot of people have been shooting at them but not very many have hit that mark.
