Jewel Sue Adcock

KOSCIUSKO– Jewel Sue Adcock, 77, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at her residence. She was the mother of Robert Adcock of Batesville.

Services were Friday at Jordan Funeral Home. Burial was in Parkway Cemetery. Jordan Funeral Home had charge.

Adcock was a member of Williamsville Baptist Church and served in the Ethel CB Club. She sewed the Kosciusko Flag.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. “Bill” Adcock and one son, Donald Eugene Adcock.

Survivors along with her son include: one son, W.L. Adcock of Sumrall; one brother, Marion Stephens of Poplarville; one sister, Terry Mitchell of Kosciusko; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Helen Haynes Bailey

OLIVE BRANCH– Helen Haynes Bailey, 86, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Sonny Moore officiated. Burial was in Lambert City Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Bailey, born April 29, 1924, in Lambert, to the late Wendall Thomas and Helen Sanders Haynes, was a member of Lambert Baptist Church and retired from Garan Manufacturing Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Bailey and one daughter, Martha Bailey Moore.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mildred Bailey Millwood of Olive Branch and Gloria Bailey Shellman of Batesville; two brothers, Douglas Haynes of Lambert and Frank Haynes of Sardis; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

James K. Burke

CHARLESTON– James K. Burke, 64, died Thursday, June 10, 2010.

Memorial services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.

Burke, born April 10, 1946, in Alabama to the late Jim and Mary Evelyn Kelly Burke, was an auto body mechanic for many years.

Survivors include: two daughters, Christie Pauline Burke of Charleston and Angela Burke Harris of Sardis; one brother, Bobby Burke of Lambert; two sisters, Linda Mitchell of Louisiana and Alice Burke of Arkansas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Marilyn Burns Clark

BATESVILLE– Marilyn Burns Clark, 51, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Catherine Camp officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Clark, born May 20, 1959, in Magee, to Maxine Loucille Ainsworth Perkins and Hubert Wilferd Burns, was a beautician.

She was preceded in death by her step-father, Paul R. Perkins.

Survivors include: her mother, Maxine A. Perkins of Oakland; her father, Hubert Wilferd Burns of Bassfield; two sons, Shane Tramel of Batesville and Robby Clark of Vidalia, La.; four sisters, Gwendolyn McMahon of Slidell, La., Rosanna Moore of Horn Lake, Judith Howard of Batesville and Janice Tramel of Oakland; one brother, Ashley Burns of Waggaman, La. and four grandchildren.

Mary Frances Honnoll Long

RIPLEY– Mary Frances Honnoll Long, 83, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at St. Frances Hospital. She was the mother of David Honnoll of Batesville.

Services were Wednesday at Ripley Presbyterian Church. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. McPeters Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Long, was a retired educator in Alcorn and Tippah Counties. She served as Alcorn County Third District Supervisor and was a member of Ripley Presbyterian Church where she was in the choir. She was a member of Jr. Civic League.

Survivors along with her son include: her husband, Raiford N. Long of Ripley; one son, Bob Honnoll of Corinth; two step-sons, Ray Long and Mike Long of Ripley; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert Lee Robertson

CLEVELAND, OHIO– Robert Lee Robertson, 45, formerly of Sledge, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio.

Services will be held today at Thomas G. Smith Funeral Home in Cleveland. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with services to follow. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Thomas G. Smith Funeral Home has charge.

Robertson was born Jan. 30, 1965, in Sledge to the late Robert Lee and Aretha Burdett Robertson.

Survivors along with his mother, include: his wife, Sheila Lewis Robertson of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Sardis; one daughter, Shaquala Robertson of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Doris Leverson, Gladys Wilbourn of Sardis and brothers, Robert Lamar of Sardis, David Wilbourn of Syracuse, N.Y. and Anthony Robertson of Waterloo, Iowa.

Willie Mae Strong

COURTLAND– Willie Mae Strong, 66, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Tammy Herring will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Strong, born Sept. 1, 1943, to the late Jerry Johnson and Essie Mae Ford, was a homemaker and a member of Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Monroe Strong of Courtland; three daughters, Margaret Johnson and Essie Strong, both of Courtland and Vernell McKie of Batesville; two sons, Donnie Strong of Davenport, Iowa and Michael Smith of Batesville; seven sisters, Stella Ellis of Batesville, Addie Mae Watson of Memphis, Alma Lee of Tillatobia, Linda Lockett of St. Louis, Ethel Hamilton of Detroit, Diane Kimble of Drummond, Tenn. and Mae Liza Anderson of Davenport, Iowa; five brothers, Tillis Hamilton of Memphis, Jerry Johnson of Detroit, Jessie Hamilton of Eugene, Ore., Eddie Jean Hamilton of Rock Island, Ill. and Archie L. Hamilton; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bessie Jane Furr Roseberry

MARKS– Bessie Jane Furr Roseberry, 98, died May 27, 2010, in Marks.

Services were May 29 at Marks Presbyterian Church. Dr. Laurie Jones officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Roseberry was an elementary teacher. She taught in schools through out Quitman County. She was preceded in death by her parents, V.A. Furr and Margaret Martin Furr.

Survivors include: one sister, Ella Venn Furr Long; one son, James M. Roseberry; two daughters, Margaret R. Thompson and Jane Henri B. Fouste; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Melissa Robinson

HOUSTON, TEXAS– Melissa Robinson, 46, formerly of Batesville, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Houston Northwest Hospital.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Power House C.O.G.I.C. in Batesville. Pastor Reginald Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Sandy Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Wednesday from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at Power House C.O.G.I.C.

Robinson, born Nov. 8, 1963, to Burl Robinson II of Sardis and Martha Brassell Holmes of Tylertown, was a CNA at Senatobia Convalescent Center and a member of Power House C.O.G.I.C.

Survivors along with her parents include: one daughter, Erica Carothers of Houston, Texas; two sons, Tevin Robinson of Houston and Jeremy Robinson of Jackson; four sisters, Junail Love of Courtland, Maranda Conner of Batesville, Cassandra Pitchford of Sardis, Valerie Lester of Memphis and Evelyn Bates of McComb; two brothers, Burl Robinson III of Courtland and Tyrone Robinson of Tulsa, Okla. and four grandchildren.
