Conner sprints for state championship

South Panola freshman trackster Antonio Conner brought home the state championship medal in the 200-meter dash Monday afternoon with a time of 21.3 seconds.

Competition in the 6A State Track meet in Pearl started on Saturday but was postponed due to weather.

Conner beat Anthony Williams from Southaven who had been neck to neck with Conner in former meets in their division.

The heated competition in the 400 meter dash continued for the two top runners in the state between South Panola’s Montez Griffin and Donta Oliver from Columbus. Griffin won the north state but Oliver took the top spot in the state with a time of 48.5. Due to technical difficulties with the clock, Griffin’s time was not available.

The 4×200 meter relay team of Griffin, Nick Brassell, Greg Hayes and Conner took second place but the time was not available. Winning the race was Horn Lake.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Jabari Harris from Murrah took the top spot with a time 39. Brassell placed fourth.

Conner came in sixth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.14 seconds. Williams from Southaven took the top spot with a 10.57 time.

Brassell placed seventh in the high jump.

Winning the overall boy’s top spot was Brandon High School with 61 points. South Panola came in ninth with 36 points.
