The South Panola boys’ track team placed third in the Regional Meet held in Oxford High School on Monday. The meet was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed due to the weekend thunderstorms.
The top four places will advance to the north half Saturday at Tupelo High school starting at 11 a.m..
In the field events, Nick Brassell took first place in the high jump with a 6’4” jump. Terrance Lamar was in a three-way tie for second place in the high jump with a 6’2” jump. Nick Johnson placed fourth in the shot put with a 43’6” distance. Marcus Henry placed fourth in the long jump with a 20’6”.
In a very close 200-meter dash race, Tony Conner placed first with a time of 21.80 seconds and Montez Griffin placed fourth with a 22.30 time. Conner also took the top spot in the 100 meter relay with a 10.78.
Brassell took the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40 seconds.
Another close race was the 400-meter relay. Donta Oliver from Columbus beat Montez Griffin for first place with a time of 47.99 seconds. Griffin’s time was 48.05 seconds.
The South Panola boys’ 4×200-meter relay team of Griffin, Brassell, Tony Conner and Pierre Conner took the top spot with a 1:27.95 time.
Marcus Henry missed advancing to the north half in the 300-meter hurdles when he placed fifth with a 43.06 time.
The boy’s 4×400 meter relay team did not advance, nor did the discus throw competitors.
