It may have taken a while, but North Panola linebacker and offensive lineman Cortez Hibbler signed a national letter of intent to play with a four-year university.
He had an offer from Northwest Community College, but was waiting for the big leagues.
Tuesday, he signed to play with Alcorn State University. He had spoken with other SWAC universities but he did not like their offers.
Alcorn said he could play linebacker and he took them at their word.
The 260-pounder has a 3.2 grade point average in school.
He visited Alcorn on Monday and said many of last year’s players are returning under second year head coach Earnest Collins Jr.
Hibbler said the Braves’ defense is anchored with returning players. He also mentioned the Alcorn strength and conditioning coach worked with the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Tech team and that made him feel good.
“I just want to go to a hardworking environment,” Hibbler said.
He will major in recreation.
