Frank Hawkins Jr.

COMO— Frank Hawkins Jr., 69, died December 17, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Saturday at St. Matthew Church in Sardis. Burial was in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home  had charge.

Hawkins was a construction worker.

Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Ann Jackson Hawkins; one daughter, Tiya Jackson of Horn Lake; one son, Cedric Hawkins of Senatobia and eight grandchildren.

Beatrice Creekmore Morgan

BATESVILLE— Beatrice Creekmore Morgan, 96, died Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Morgan, born Feb. 4, 1913, to the late Will and Lula Byrd Creekmore, was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Bill” Morgan.

Survivors include: three daughters, Carolyn Morgan Yacko of Columbiana, Ala., Rita Morgan Pinkston of Anchorage, Alaska and Teresa Morgan Cannon of Batesville; one son, Ricky Donald Morgan of Eugene, Oreg.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

James Robert Reed

HERNANDO— James Robert Reed, 81, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009.

Services will be Saturday at noon at New Independence M.B. Church in Coldwater. Burial will be in New Independence Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Rodgers Funeral Home. Rodgers Funeral Home has charge.

Reed was a painter.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Jean Reed; four daughters, Shirley Ann Reed and Sylvia Reed, both of Coldwater, Glenda Pigram and Brenda Shipps, both of Desoto; eight sons, James E. Reed of Detroit, Mich., Ralph Reed, Lee Reed and Melvin Reed, all of Coldwater, Ronnie Reed of Memphis, Rickey Reed of Como, Stanley Reed of Sardis and Jesse Jamison of St. Louis; seven sisters, Willie Mae Frazier of Memphis, Lillie Boyd of Coldwater, Hazel Teen and Bobbie Ann Eason, both of Memphis, Jessie Tanksley, Josie Brakefield and Vasline Barber, all of Detroit; three brothers, Harmon Reed of Danville, Ill., Eddie Reed of Coldwater and Lee Roy Reed Jr. of Detroit ; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Wesley Vance Smith

KANSAS CITY, Kan.— Wesley Vance Smith, 53,  formerly of Courtland, died Monday, December 21, 2009, at his residence.

Services were Wednesday at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. John Ellis officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Smith, born March 24, 1956, to Gerline Smith of Courtland and Henry Bradford of Courtland, was a laborer for Owens Corning in Kansas City.

Survivors along with his mother and father include: one brother, Jimmie Lee Smith of Kansas City; one daughter, Lexis Smith of Kansas City; one step-daughter, Syretta Kelley of Kansas City.
