SARDIS— John Lee, 60, died Thursday, November 12, 2009.
Services were Saturday at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Walter Newsom officiated. Burial was in Mt. Gillion M.B. Church Cemetery. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home had charge.
Lee, born June 5, 1949, to the late Albert Lee Sr. and Adra Belle Smith Lee, attended Patton Lane High School in 1968. He was a was a member of the Mt. Gillion M.B. Church and a veteran of the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include: his wife, Kathy Lee of Sardis; three daughters, Shana Lee of Sardis, Sharon Sanford of Courtland and Magun Lee of Duluth, Ga.; five sons, Johnathan Lee of Sardis, Brandon Julius Lee of Oxford, Timothy Flowers of Memphis, Stacey Flowers of Country Club Hill, Ill. and Brian Johnson of Lawrenceville, Ga.; four brothers, Willie Mackey of Centerburg, Ohio, Robert G. Lee of Stockton, Calif., George Lee of Cardenia, Calif., Albert Lee of Los Angeles, Calif.; four sisters, Hazel Reaves of Roseville, Calif., Joyce Phillips and Janace Lee, both of Batesville and Sidney Miller of Carson, Calif.
Irean Jones Harris
BATESVILLE— Irean Jones Harris, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be Wednesday at noon at New Sardis Baptist Church in Memphis at 7739 East Holmes Road. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Henderson Funeral Home in Hernando had charge.
Harris, born Dec. 14, 1946, to Ruby Lee Ward Jones of Batesville and the late Buster “Pompey” Jones, was active with the Patton Lane Marching Band “color guard.” She graduated from Patton Lane High School in 1967.
She was employed by the Memphis City Schools and later at Sheraton Casino where she received an “Employee of the Year” award.
Survivors along with her mother include: two daughters, Xavier Rand and Gloria Franklin, both of Memphis; two sons, Antonio Linzy and Johnny L. Harris Jr., both of Memphis; four brothers, Reddie G. Jones of Alexandria, Va., Rufus Jones, Robert Jones, both of Naples, Fla. and Grady Jones Sr. of Batesville; six sisters, Minnie Jones Lloyd of Pope, Mary Jones Washington, of Crowder, Ireska Booth of Memphis, Annie L. Jones Ray of Richland, Anna M. Jones Henderson of Chicago and five grandchildren.
Clarence Bleathon McCullar
WATER VALLEY— Clarence Bleathon McCullar, 80, died November, 21, 2009, at Veterans Nursing Home in Oxford. He was a farmer and a member of Lovejoy Methodist Church in Panola County.
McCullar was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War.
Graveside services were Tuesday at Sylva Rena Baptist Church. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge.
He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn McCullar of Mesquite.
Evira Armstrong Taylor
SARDIS— Evira Armstrong Taylor, 44, died Wednesday, November 8, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services were Monday at Askew Grove M.B. Church in Longtown. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Taylor, born Jan. 22, 1965, in Sardis, to Veter Benson Armstrong of Senatobia and the late R.B. Armstrong, was a caregiver for the Baddour Center in Senatobia. She was a member of Cherry Street M.B. Church in Como.
Survivors along with her mother include: her husband, Leon Taylor of Sardis; one daughter, Kaiesha Armstrong of Sardis; two sons, Kegan Armstrong and Triston Armstrong, both of Sardis; five sisters, Jane “Jeanette” Rogers, Sylvia Walton, Joyce Gates, all of Como, Quentina Ware, of Nesbit and Marie Curtis of Memphis; three brothers, Ricky Armstrong of Sardis, R.B. Armstrong Jr. of Como and Walter Armstrong of Vicksburg and five grandchildren.
Neville Scott
OXFORD— Neville Scott, 79, died Thursday, November 19, 2009. He was the father of Nelda Ballard of Batesville.
Services were Sunday at Hernando Funeral Home. Burial was in Eaverson Cemetery. Hernando Funeral Home had charge.
Scott was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Survivors along with his daughter include: his wife, Edna Scott of Oxford; two daughters Lynn Wilson of Taylorsville and Lisa Scott of Pearl; one step-daughter, Lynda Flippo of Summerville, Tenn.; two sisters, Nadie Graves of Madison and Betty Ruth Hutchinson of Murphreesboro, Tenn. five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Steven Allen Winters
BATESVILLE— Steven Allen Winters, 21, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, at his residence.
Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Winters, born April 4, 1988, in Chicago, Ill., to Steve Winters and the late Pearline Ruth Wilson, was a Baptist.
Survivors along with his father include: one son, Jonathan Michael Winters of Courtland; one sister, Shelia Marie Winters of Courtland; two brothers, Barry Ridgeway of Batesville and Ronnie Edward Fowler of Sardis; his grandmother, Hazel Winters of Courtland and his grandfather, William Alfred Wilson of Parkin, Ark.
