SP loses to MUS, ND upsets Lee, NP falls to S. Delta
SP vs MUS

For the first time since 2001, the South Panola Tigers lost a regular season home game.

The Tigers scored 19 unanswered points, but it was not enough to overcome the 21 points Memphis University School had scored earlier. MUS held on to win 21-19.

MUS led 21-0 before the Tigers’ Nick Parker scored the three touchdowns for South Panola on runs of three, 50 and eight yards. He had 123 yards on 23 carries. The Tigers missed a PAT from 35 yards out. They were penalized for celebration.

The Tigers also missed a two-point conversion attempt.

MUS scored after two Tiger fumbles, one field goal, one touchdown. The field goal was scored with just two minutes gone in the game. In the second quarter, MUS scored on a 29-yard field goal. With 9:35 left in the first half, MUS scored on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Barry Brunetti to Stephond Allmond for the 14-0 lead.

Allmond had a 12-yard run with 8:22 left in the half. Then Parker broke the Tiger drought with a three-yard run at the 2:37 mark to go into the half down 21-6.

In the third quarter, Parker scored two more runs at the 9:51 mark and 6:35 mark.

North Panola vs South Delta

North Panola had four fumbles in route to a 22-14 loss at the hands of South Delta from Rolling Fork.

South Delta scored first and the two-point conversion in the second quarter. North Panola’s Vernon Lewis scored on a nine yard run with 6:34 to go in the first half, but the two-point attempt fail. South Delta led 8-6 at the half.

The third quarter went scoreless, but the teams jockeyed for position in the fourth. South Delta  scored on a 52-yard run, but the two-point attempt failed for the 14-6 lead. North Panola tied the game on a 17-yard run by Lewis with 10:24 left in the game on the first play from scrimmage.

On a quarterback sack of Cougar Quinn Ellis, South Delta picked up the fumbled ball and sprinted 25 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. The two-point conversion  gave South Delta the 22-14 win.

North Delta vs. Lee Academy

North Delta pulled out an upset win tonight over 3A Lee Academy of Clarksdale, 13-3. Lee scored its only field goal, a 32-yarder, on its first possession of the night.

North Delta went 62-yards in 13 plays and scored on a quarterback Derek Shawn two-yard touchdown run with 1:52 left in the first quarter. Michael Magee kicked the extra point.

The Green Wave scored with 5:19 left in the third quarter on a 20-yard pass from Shawn to Bryan Nickle. The extra point kick failed.

North Delta defense had seven sacks and held Lee to 99 total yards of offense, including 60 yards rushing.
