John Henry Barksdale

BATESVILLE–  John Henry Barksdale, 63, died Friday, July 17, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Monday at Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como. Rev. Willie I. Frost officiated. Burial was in Mt. Level Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Sardis had charge.

He was a native of Panola County, born to James Turner Reed and Eva Mae Barksdale. He was a former construction worker with Deveny Construction Company. He was a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Batesville.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lisa Barksdale of St. Louis; one son, Sherman Barksdale of Batesville; his mother Eva Mae Webb of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight sisters, Kathleen Gardner of East Moline, Ill., Lula Brooks of Jacksonville, Fla., Deborah Hibbler, Barbara Frost, and Vivian Burbette all of Sardis, Martha Brooks of Holly Springs, Valarie Johnson of Como and Pamela Stephenson of Memphis; seven brothers, Jimmy Caldwell of Milwaukee, Wis., Otis Brooks of Como, Harold Reed of East Moline, IL, Melvin Reed of Sardis, Sammy Bobo of Senatobia, Danny Bobo of Jacksonville, Fla. and Minister Anthony Anderson of New Albany and seven grandchildren.

 

Emma Hernandez Hughes

BATESVILLE–  Emma Hernandez Hughes, 78, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at her residence.

Services were Friday at National Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Roy Bailey officiated. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. National Funeral Home had charge.

Hughes, born April 19, 1931, to the late Joe Myles and Ada Alexander, was a retired custodian for K Mart. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Cooper of Dora, Ala., Anita McNeil of Dolthan, Ala. and Sherrie Peters of Terrehaute, Ind.; two sons, Ricky Hernandez of Batesville and Larry Hernandez of Clarksdale; two sisters, Pauline Terry of Crowder and Christine Yarbrough of Oceala, Ark.; two brothers, Earl Myles of Houston, Texas and Melton Myles of Batesville; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren. 

James Loyd Williams

SARDIS–  James Loyd Williams, 68, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his residence.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Doug Pepper will officiate. Burial will be in Cold Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held today 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Williams, born Jan. 7, 1941, in Curtis, to the late Jimmie Eunice and Vivian Geneva Mayes Williams, was retired from Lawrence Brothers and Parker Hannifin and served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include: one son, Larry Keith Williams of Courtland; one sister, Nancy “Sis” Williams Carlisle of Batesvlle; four brothers, Marlo Roy Williams and Sammy Dean Williams, both of Loyalton, Calif., Leonard Roy Williams of Rio Oso, Calif. and Billy Newton Williams of Sardis and one grandson.
