Health Workshop

June 24 workshop aims to improve local children’s health

A workshop to be hosted June 24 by the South Panola Parent Center will equip parents with ideas to improve their children’s nutrition and increase their physical activity.

The South Panola School District has teamed with the “Eating Good and Moving Like We Should” program to offer the free workshop designed for parents and caregivers of children in grades K-12 to improve family eating and activity habits.

The workshop will be held Wednesday, June 24, from 9 a.m. until noon. Seating for the workshop is limited. Anyone interested in attending should phone Parent Center director Diane Wiley at 563-6044 by June 19 to register. The Parent Center is located at 204 College St.

Breakfast and lunch snacks will be provided and door prizes will be awarded.

Speakers will include Janie Cole, registered dietitian, and Lacy Dodd, exercise specialist and health promoter.

Using nutrition resources, this program focuses on parents as role models and encourages them to make small, specific behavior changes to prevent obesity and help maintain a healthy weight.

This program is funded by the Delta Health Alliance and the National Food Service Management Institute and Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Mississippi.
