CHARLESTON–Lucille Bland, 94, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Enid. Rev. Columbus Bland will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Bland, born Feb. 6, 1912, in Charleston, to the late Spencer Smith and Emmaline Laws, was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors include: nine daughters, Cora Bland of Charleston, Cleophia Blackburn of Batesville, Velma Walker of Memphis and Madeline Jackson, Alberta Buckley, Annie Bland and Myrtle Lane, all of Chicago, Maggie Jones of Winstonville and Leartic Gage of Bellwood, Ill.; one step-daughter, Dorothy Blair of Chicago; two sons, William McKinley of Batesville and Rev. Columbus Bland of South Holland, Ill.; 48 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Bell Hoskins

HORN LAKE– Mary Bell Hoskins, 52, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009. She was a member of West Camp M.B. Church in Batesville.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at West Camp M.B. Church. Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery.

Hoskins, born April 24, 1957, in Marks, to Otis Cross and Mary Lee Cross, attended Quitman County High School. She was a shipping clerk.

Survivors include: four sons, David Hoskins Jr. of Jackson, Dawayne Hoskins of Southaven, Benjamin Hoskins and Tyrone Hoskins, both of Courtland and four grandchildren.

Grace Inez Brown McMinn

CLINTON–Grace Inez Brown McMinn, 84, formerly of Pope, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at her residence.

Services were Saturday at Clinton Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

McMinn, born June 15, 1924, in Schlater, to the late William Alonzo Brown and Donie Shaw Brown, was a graduate of Minter City High School. She worked as  a bank teller for the Bank of Pope and the Bank of Batesville. After moving to Clinton in 1963 she worked for Ed McDonald Real Estate and then the Clinton School District where she served as school secretary at Clinton High School, Clinton Park Elementary and the central office.

She was a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Harold McMinn.

Survivors include: one son, Jim McMinn of Mendenhall; two daughters, Charlotte McMinn of Clinton and Melanie Jenkins of Summerville, S.C.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
