Leland “Pop” Brown Sr.

BATESVILLE–Leland “Pop” Brown Sr., 94, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at his residence.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at South Hopewell M.B. Church in Oxford. Rev. Terry Worthman will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Green Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Brown, born Feb. 13, 1915, in Taylor, to the late Will Brown and Lillie Cote Brown, was a retired farmer and a member of South Hopewell M.B. Church where he was a deacon.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Perry Brown of Batesville; two daughters, Exie Hood and Martha Brown, both of Davenport, Iowa; seven sons, Leland Brown Jr. of Batesville, Lee Edward Brown of Oxford, Lee Russell Brown of Dayton and Walter Brown, both of Dayton, Ohio; three sons, W.L. Brown, Hubert Brown and Willie Brown, all of Davenport, Iowa; 25 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

John Russell Green

IUKA–John Russell Green, 77, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at his residence.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Dickins Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Jumpers Chapel Church Cemetery in Water Valley. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Green, born April 28, 1932, to the late George Gerald Green and the late Lucile Hulsey Green, was an employee of Ana Saw and Machine Company for over 25 years. He was a member of Jumpers Chapel Church in Water Vallely.

Survivors include: his wife of over 30 years, Thelma Dean Green of Iuka; three sisters, Edna Raymond and Judy Crosswhite, both of Batesville and Gladys Burkes of Morton; four brothers, Billy Wayne Green, Roger Crosswhite and Buck Crosswhite, all of Batesville and Bobby Joe Green of Iuka.

Thadis “Thad” Milton Tarver Jr.

Thadis “Thad” Milton Tarver, Jr., 71, retired employee of ITT Continental Baking Company, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford. He was the husband of Voncille Campbell Tarver, formerly of Panola County. 

Funeral services were Monday at Anchor Baptist Church. Rev. Gerald Shook officiated.  Burial was in Anchor Cemetery.  Waller Funeral Home has charge.

Born in Lafayette County, Tarver was a routeman for Wonder Bread for 23 years. He was a member of Anchor Baptist Church.

 Survivors include his wife, Voncille Campbell Tarver of Oxford; two daughters, Debra Tarver Miller and Donna Tarver Lane, her husband Gary, both of Oxford; two sons, Chris Tarver  and David Tarver, his wife Gina, both of Oxford; five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

 The family has requested that expressions of sympathy in Tarver’s memory be made to, Anchor Baptist Church, 1109 Highway 7 S, Water Valley, Miss., 38965.

Eurice Lynn Wilkie

SARDIS–Eurice Lynn Wilkie, 77, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Graveside services were Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Ray Legge and Rev. Bryan Wilkie officiated. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Wilkie was  born Jan. 14, 1932, in Sardis, to the late Stanford Earl Wilkie and Lena Rivers Smith Wilkie.

She is survived by her brother Ray Wilkie of Mountain View, Ark.
