Pegues accepts Under Armour Senior Bowl invite

Mobile, Ala. – After a record setting career at Mississippi State, Derek Pegues will bring his talents to the Port City next month for the 2009 Under Armour Senior Bowl.  Bowl officials announced that Pegues has accepted an invitation to the January 24 game.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (CT) in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium and the game will be televised by the NFL Network.

Pegues leaves Starkville as the school’s all-time leader in total kick returns, total kick yardage, kickoff returns and kickoff return yardage.  A second team All-SEC selection by the coaches, Pegues also owns the SEC record for kickoff returns (112) and kickoff return yardage (2,484).

The Batesville native also made his mark in the Bulldogs’ defensive backfield the last several years. His three interception returns for touchdowns is a school record and his career total of 12 interceptions is tied for second in school history. Pegues totaled 50 tackles in 2008, which was fourth best on the team.
