Panola man to face federal grand jury

By Jason C. Mattox

A Panola County man is sitting in a jail cell at the David M. Bryan Justice Complex facing charges for a sex-related offense alleged to be his third since the late 1990s.

Charles Warren Crouch, 61, 1106 Crouch Rd., Batesville, was picked up by Panola County deputies on November 5 and held for the FBI.

A copy of the arrest warrant lists the charge as enticement of a child to meet for sexual purposes.

According to a general affidavit filed in the Panola County Justice Court office, Crouch and a female companion met with a child for the purposes of engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

The female companion is not charged.

Crouch was previously arrested in Panola County in 2001 and charged with dissemination of pornographic materials to persons under 18 years of age and indecent exposure.

The charge automatically revoked his probation from a 1998 Texas conviction.

Crouch was placed in a Texas penitentiary for the probation violation. The Texas charge is listed as indecency with a child under 18 years of age.

With the FBI hold, the matter could be considered by a federal grand jury meeting in Oxford later this week.

Calls to the U.S. Attorney’s Office had not been returned at press time.
