Elsie Mae Anderson

ALTONA, Ill.– Elsie Mae Anderson, 96, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at the Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill. She was the mother of Kathy Todd of Batesville.

Services were Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona. Rev. Tim Anderson officiated. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery. Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home of Oneida, Ill. had charge.

Anderson, born Aug. 24, 1912, in Chilhowie, Va., to the late Robert and Minnie I. Widener Martin, was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a member of War Mothers of World War II and Mary Martha’s Group. She was a former custodian and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by one son, Gary Anderson.

Survivors along with her daughter include: two daughters, Rita Clevenger of Henderson, Ill. and Susie Miller of Galesburg, Ill.; four sons, Ralph D. Anderson of Wyanet, Ill., Robert Anderson of Escondido, Calif., R. Douglas Anderson of Galva, Ill. and K. Marty Anderson of Galesburg, Ill.; one half-sister, Aileen Russell of Marion, Va.; one step-sister, Mabel Martin of Chilhowie, Va.; one step-brother, Eugene Blevins of Chilhowie, Va.; 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

Douglas Beard

BATESVILLE– Douglas Beard, 63, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas Beard will officate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Beard, born Feb. 3, 1945, to the late John and Addie White Beard, was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. He was retired from the Army National Guard after 32 years of service. He was also a retiree of Utley Properties.

Survivors include: his wife, Rosemary Perkins Beard of Batesville; two sons, Kenneth Beard of Pope and David Beard of Batesville; one sister, Virginia Duke of Batesville; three brothers, J.W. Beard, Robert Beard, both of Batesville and Thomas Beard of Mexico; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Michael “Mike” Dane Callihan Sr.

OAKLAND– Michael “Mike” Dane Callihan Sr., 59, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at his residence.

Services were Monday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Callihan, born July 2, 1949, to the late Herbert Lonnie Callihan and the late Evelyn Louise Randall Callihan, was a self employed barber.

Survivors include: his wife of 17 years, Mrs. Clyde Callihan; one step-daughter, Whitney Hawkins of Batesville; three sons, Michael Dane Callihan Jr. of Enid, Gary Stayton of Nashville, Tenn. and Matthew Keen of New Orleans; one step-son, William Massey of Oakland; two sisters, Nell Hubbard of Pope and Patty Roberts of Meridian; one brother, Bob Callihan of Batesville and four grand children.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Cemetery.

Patricia Lynn Wiggins Gott Callende
NAPOLEONVILLE, La.– Patricia Lynn Wiggins Gott Callende, 44, died Monday, October 6, 2008. She was the niece of Ruby Yarbrough of Courtland and Jean Briggs of Batesville.

Memorial services were Friday at First Baptist Church in Napoleonville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Landry’s Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include: her mother, Patsy Lorene Barlow Wiggins; one sister, Laura Thibodeaux; one son, Denny James Callender; one daughter, Clarissa Lynn Callender and one brother Denny Dan Wiggins Jr.

Billy George Dulin

SARDIS– Billy George Dulin, 76, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at his residence.
Services were Sunday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Dulin, born Feb. 28, 1932, to the late Bill Dulin and the late Georgie Ree Gant Dulin, was a retired employee from Conagra Fish Farms. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Korean Conflict and his rank was E5.

Survivors include: five daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hollifield Cain of Sardis, Rita Bailey of Batesville, Betty Bowles of Sardis, Rebecca Pettit of Batesville and Karin Tsiotrios of Germany; four sisters, Ruth Ann Woodall of Senatobia, Elizabeth Parrish of Belzoni, Mary Jane Appleton of Batesville and Annette Durham of Sardis; seven brothers, Whit Dulin of Batesville, Ben Dulin, Ike Dulin, Eddie Dulin, David Dulin and Wayne Dulin, all of Sardis and Don Dulin of Gatlinburg, Tenn., 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.


Shanna Michalle Ennis

SENATOBIA– Shanna Michalle Ennis, 26, died Thursday, October 9, 2008. She was the daughter of Jo Ann Thompson of Sardis and Michael Earl Ennis of Alabama.

Services were Sunday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home. Burial was in Bethesda Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors along with her parents include: one son, Joseph Lee Wallace of Independence and one sister, Alecia Ann MacMullen of Alabama.

Mattie Lee Branch Jones

SLEDGE– Mattie Lee Branch Jones, 84, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Horn Lake.

Services were Saturday at Sledge Baptist Church. Rev. Chad Phelan officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Jones, born Dec. 23, 1923, in Kilmicheal, was a member of Sledge Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Steve C. Jones and Walter Branch and one daughter, Linda Carol Jones.

Survivors include: two sons, Steve C. Jones and Robert Jones, both of Crenshaw; two step-sons, Randy Branch of Hoopston, Ill. and Ricky Branch of Clarksdale; two daughters, Patricia Winters of Hernando and Debra Mayo of Horn Lake; two step-daughters, Nell Herring and Julie Branch, both of Crenshaw; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Sledge Baptist Church.

Julia Ann Ford Thompson

SARDIS– Julia Ann Ford Thompson 75, died  Thursday October 9, 2008, at her residence in Sardis.

 Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Clay Baker officiated. Burial was in Black Jack Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Thompson, born Aug. 9, 1933, to the late Riley Ford and Myrtice Cook Ford in Water Valley, was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Thompson.

She is survived by her daughter Margaret Ann Perkins Tapper of Pope; sisters: Dorothy Gene Mixon of Courtland and Kay Mettetal of Sardis; brothers, Billy Ford of Water Valley, Boyd Ford and Sonny Ford, all of Courtland; one granddaughter, Michelle Putman and one great- granddaughter, Alyssa Putman.
