Pegues, Jerry brothers selected to All-SEC coaches’ team

Three former South Panola High School standouts were voted to the Coaches’ Preseason All–Southeastern Conference team, the league office announced Tuesday.

Mississippi State senior defensive back Derek Pegues was one of four Bulldogs named to the list along with junior running back Anthony Dixon, senior offensive lineman Anthony Strauder and senior linebacker Jamar Chaney.

Dixon and Chaney were selected to the second team while Strauder was named to the third team offense. Pegues was one of only three players in the conference tabbed as repeat first-team selections from the 2007 Preseason All-SEC Team.

Ole Miss meanwhile also placed four players on the team as senior offensive lineman Michael Oher and junior defensive end Greg Hardy were named unanimous first-team selections. Both Players received SEC honors from the coaches at the conclusion of last season.

Senior defensive tackle Peria Jerry was named to the second team defense while his brother, junior offensive tackle John Jerry, was selected to the third team offense.

Defending national champion LSU lead all teams with 14 players selected among the three preseason squads while Florida was the only other SEC team with double-figure selections with 10.
