Mundroff honored as Parent of the Year

Michelle Mundroff  will have to find more wall space for her newest “Parent of the Year” plaque.

Mundroff, the mother of two, has been named Parent of the Year twice before, in 2004, representing Batesville Elementary, and 2006, for Batesville Intermediate. In 2004, she was also named the South Panola District Parent of the Year, an honor she has been awarded again this year, after being named 2008 Batesville Middle School Parent of the Year.

Her son Mitchell, 10, is a student at Batesville Middle. Mundroff and her husband William also have a daughter, Campbell, 4.

Mundroff, who is a homemaker, has served as vice president for the South Panola Foundation for Public Education (SPFPE) since 2006.  The Foundation is a non-profit organization comprised of local business leaders, parents, teachers, and concerned citizens.  The Foundation raises money and awards grants to South Panola teachers for use in their classrooms.

This year, Mundroff has served as Special Projects Chairman for the BMS Booster Club, organizing the school’s Fun Friday.  Each Friday nutritional snacks are sold to raise money for the Booster Club.

She keeps the snacks stocked and helps in the distribution of snacks. At Christmas she organized the BMS Staff Christmas Party, setting.

Since Mundroff still holds a valid Mississippi teaching certificate, she will also be serving as a proctor during the Mississippi state testing at BMS.

Even though her son, Mitchell, is now enrolled at Batesville Middle School, she has continued to help Batesville Intermediate School with projects this year. She  has painted murals and other wall decorations at the school.

At BMS she has been busy in her son’s fourth grade classroom where she assists with special activities, grading papers, and substituting for short periods of time.

This year she has been a volunteer tutor at the school.

A member of Batesville Presbyterian Church,  she has been the Cherub Choir director for the past eight years, a member of the Chancel Choir since 1992, and periodically assists with the Sunday night youth program for kindergarten through fifth grade.

She is also a member of the Batesville Garden Club and co-chaired the “Christmas Tour of Homes” for the past two years.

Michelle is an Associate Member of Junior Auxiliary of Batesville.  When she was an active member (1999-2005), she served as president, vice president, and Reading Is Fundamental Chairman (RIF), directing a program that purchases and distributes books several times a year to all students in Panola County schools. The JA chapter awarded Michelle its Community Service Award in 2001.

Mundroff and other parents and teachers of the year from individual schools will be honored at a reception today at 3:30 in the Batesville Intermediate School cafeteria. The public is invited to attend.
