Oct. 12

New Beginning Community Church will have a huge yard sale at Cube Ice Company in the Industrial Park next to the airport from 8 a.m. to. 2 p.m.

The Reverend Samuel Swayze Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century of Jackson invites the public to attend the historical marking of the Davis Chapel Methodist Church at 11 a.m. The church was built in 1851 and is located at the intersection of Davis Chapel Road and Old Panola Road in Sardis. All are invited for the historical event.

The third South Panola High School Decade of the 80s Reunion returns Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Batesville Lions Club. Fee is $35 per person. T-shirts and food will be extra. It is also bring your own beverage. The reunion will run from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. with special guest band Spunk Monkees, along with DJ Marky Mark (Mark Best). Plans are underway for the 9th annual Gateway to the Delta Festival on the Charleston Court Square. Entertainment will kick off at 11 a.m. with The Ellis Family, followed by The Bonfire Orchestra, The Shakerz, the David Dunavent Band, the Beale St. All-Star Band, Southern Halo, and Meet the Press.  Other event highlights are the always-popular Kidzone will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the Mayor’s Fun Run; and the ever-popular car show. Oct. 12&13

Hope Mentoring will sponsor two days of Community Awareness at Patton Lane Park with a Health Fair (Merit Health) from 10 a.m. to noon and a Community Picnic from noon to 4 p.m . (Vendors welcome).  A softball tournament will be held starting at 4 p.m. (registration at 2 p.m.) recognizing the Untouchable Softball teams.

Oct. 14

Communities Unlimited will have a “Let’s Talk Business” seminar Tuesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Sardis City Hall, 114 West Lee St. There will be a discussion of business development in and for Sardis. Topic covered will include entrepreneurship, community opportunity and Communities Unlimited Assistance.

Oct. 15

The NAACP will meet Tuesday before the third Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Batesville Public Library.

Oct. 19

The South Panola Class of 1979 is planning its 40th year reunion

for Oct. 19. Contact 934-7281, 934-1272, or 703-0171 for more information or to help in the planning. All persons with connections to this class are urged to call. The reunion date is the day after the South Panola High School homecoming game in the fall.

Deadline to register for the Junior Auxiliary of Batesville  2019 Turkey Trot 5k is Oct. 19. The race will be held at 8 a.m. in lovely downtown Batesville on Nov. 23. All proceeds go to support the wonderful projects of the Batesville Junior Auxiliary.

Every third Saturday of the month, the Batesville Lions Club will have Karaoke Night starting at 6 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building off Tiger Drive.
