No.1 Leake beats No. 2 Lady Wave

In a battle of the top two girls basketball  teams in MAIS AAA, top-ranked Leake Academy blew open a close three-point halftime lead in the second half for a 73-44 victory over the North Delta Lady Green Wave Tuesday night at Leake.

In boys action, Leake made it a sweep with a 80-45 win. Colin Hartman paced North Delta (3-2) with 11 points. Ryan Gipson followed with 10 while Walt Miller and Carter Gee chipped in six each.

Chris Burchfield garnered five points while Blaine Sanders supplied four. Ripken Mitchell and Drake Barton finished with three and two points each.

North Delta traveled into Arkansas last weekend and came away with four wins as both Junior High and Varsity basketball teams won handily against the Lee Cougars.

(JH girls) NDS  47, Lee 26

Breck Brewer led all scorers with 18 points in leading the Lady Green Wave. Libby Miller and Shelby Boone garnered 10 points each while Sophie Williams contributed with five. Paizlee Woods finished with four points and Ellie Gray added two points in the winning cause.

(Varsity boys) ND 50,  Lee 32

The North Delta Green Wave evened their record at 2-2 on the campaign with a lopsided victory. Walt Miller paved the way with 16 points and six steals with Ryan Gibson following with 10 points.

Colin Hartman, Ripkin Mitchell and Blaine Sanders added four points each. Carter Gee and Drake Barton finished with three points apiece with Chris Burchfield  rounding out the scoring with two points.

(Varsity girls) ND 67,  Lee 34

The Lady Green Wave improved to 5-1 with a blowout win as nine players found their way into the scoring column. Ally Alford poured in 32 points as the lone scorer in double figure.

Hannah Bollinger added a season-high seven points while Isabella Morrow garnered five. Faith Bollinger, Sayle Stennett, Sydney Talley, Shelby Boone and Breck Brewer all collected four points. Eliza Morris contributed with two points.

The Junior High boys won easily 41-26 but no other information was available.

The North Delta girls will be back in action today as they take part on the Oxford Charger Challenge at Oxford High School.

The Junior High Lady Wave will take on Oxford’s ninth grade team at 9 a.m followed by the varsity girls squaring off against Desoto Central at 10 a.m

The North Delta boys return to the hardwood Nov. 27 when they host South Panola for a full slate of junior high and high school games beginning at 4 p.m.
