The North Delta School did not have to look very far in finding its next football coach as Mac Aldison was introduced in front of the varsity and junior high team Wednesday afternoon.
The 41 year-old Aldison, a 1993 North Delta graduate, takes over the reigns left behind by former head coach Brandon Ciaramitaro who resigned last November.
“This is truly an honor for me to lead these young men and this school that I love. Being a head football coach is something I’ve thought about for a long time and I am grateful and blessed for this opportunity that has been given  to me,” said Aldison.
North Delta headmaster Tommy Gunn said he and the school board interviewed two dozen or so applicants for the position but Aldison’s name kept coming up.
“Mac came to me when I started here and said he had a burning desire to coach at the high school level and if anything ever came open he would like to have been considered. I interviewed Mac in late November along with a few more before narrowing it down, but he kept calling me and saying he was still interested so it got to a point where he was the right person for the job,” said Gunn.
Aldison has been at North Delta for the past seven years coaching at the junior high and pee wee level but is looking forward to the challenge.
“I am excited about being a part of the program, I love this school but most importantly I love these kids. I’ve watched them grow up to be fine young men with a great future ahead of  them. But I would not be here if it wasn’t for Chimmy (Ciaramitaro). He gave me a chance to work with most of these kids in elementary school and build their character,” said Aldison.
The first order for Aldison and the Green Wave after returning from Spring Break is to hit the weight room and prepare for spring workouts.
