Pope boys defeat BJH 32-19

Pope Bulldogs defeated Batesville Junior High basketball team 32-19 last Thursday at Pope. The hard fighting Bulldogs out scored the Tigers during the game.
In the first quarter, Pope players L. B. Benson and Davion Bobo went back and fourth scoring as Benson put up four points with a two pointer and a free throw and Bobo managed five points with a shot from the floor and two shots from the charity stripe.
Emarrian Boyd scored all nine points for the Tigers in the first with two three pointers, two baskets and a free throw. The score was tied 9-9 at the end of the first.
Pope reached the net first in the second and scored two points by Benson. The Tigers fought to keep up as Jaylin Ausborn threw for two, scoring the only points in the second for the Tigers.
Pope continued to score in the second until time expired, with Lidarrick Brooks, Benson and Bobo putting points on the board.
Pope started the second half with a three pointer by Bobo. Trenderous Sanford managed to answer for the Tigers with a two pointer.
Benson was fouled twice, giving Pope three more points on a free throw. Both teams went back and forth with Pope ending the third scoring two points as Benson hit nothing but net.
With a score of 24-13 to start the fourth, Pope had a comfortable 11 point lead. The final quarter consisted mostly of fouls and free throws as Pope scored eight more points on free throws. Montavious Flowers made four baskets, as Bobo and Benson scored two each.
Tradarrious Johnson added a point to the board by banking a free throw for the Tigers. Boyd was fouled and given three free throw shots, with all three making it in the basket. Nyiah Johnson scored the final basket for the Tigers with a two pointer. Pope defeated the Tigers 32-19.
Pope 4, Lady Tigers 26
Batesville Junior High Lady Tigers defeated Pope Thursday night 26-4. The Lady Tigers scored first on a free throw by Crystal Mayes. Tyler Hamby was fouled and scored a point for Pope on a free throw.
Mayes and Nahriah Connor scored two points each for the Lady Tigers to end the first. Destin Smith was fouled in the second and scored the last three points for Pope on a free throw.
Mayes continued scoring for the Lady Tigers in the second on a free throw and two pointer. Connor, Alexus Turner and McGheyla Patton followed with a two pointer each to increase Batesville’s score. Mayes scored another point on a free throw to end the half.
With a halt to Pope’s scoring, the Lady Tigers five points in the third on two two pointers by Breanna Spencer and Mayes. Comiah Bryant was fouled at the end of the third and managed to earn a point on a free throw.
In the final quarter, the Lady Tigers were ruthless as Patton and Jamiah McKinney scored two on a free throw. Patton and Melissa Robinson finished the game with two two pointers drawing the final score to 26-4 in Batesville’s favor. Batesville Junior High will face MS Palmer December 1 at home at 5 p.m.. Pope will travel to North Panola next Monday, November 28 to face the Cougars at 5 p.m.
