No. 1 Tigers down No. 2 Arrows

The South Panola Tiger football team brought in 2015 with a bang.

With the opening kickoff taken by senior athlete Demetrius Market and returned 98 yards for a touchdown, the Clinton Arrows had no doubt the Tigers were there to play Thursday night on Arrow Field.

With a capacity crowd estimated around 10,000, the Tigers grounded out 461 total yards.

Senior athlete Donald Twilley was under center and rushed for 322 yards and two touchdowns of 98 and 63 yards on 21 carries.

South Panola’s defense was the talk of the game though. As Clinton was threatening, Kenon Johnson intercepted a Cam Akers pass on the two yard line which set up Twilley’s 98-yard touchdown run.

Clinton changed game plans and started to eat away at the Tiger lead, but could not convert extra points or field goals which were the difference in the game.

The Tigers turn their sighs to next week when the No. 3 ranked Meridian comes to town. Meridian hosts Madison Central tonight in Meridian at 7 p.m.
