Although the jail arrest log read that Nicholas Joseph Williams, aka Trinidad James, was arrested February 7 in Batesville and charged with possession of marijuana, Batesville Police Department Assistant Chief Don Province said Williams was released and charges dropped before he was actually jailed.
Williams, of Riverdale, Georgia, is a rapper. News of an arrest spread nationwide when TMZ, a celebrity TV magazine, aired footage of the incident.
Province said later that Williams was questioned and released but two others in his party were charged with either possession or simple possession of marijuana.
Province said the incident followed a complaint from an unknown caller in a Batesville motel alerting law enforcement to the smell of marijuana.
