Football teams prepare for spring

The remaining seasons of the spring games will be in full effect following spring break this past week. However, spring football is just around the corner.

All three teams have scheduled their spring games.

North Delta will start spring practice Monday, April 15 and will host a scrimmage with Deer Creek on Friday, April 26. On Thursday, April 18, the Jr. High will scrimmage at Magnolia Heights.

North Panola will start spring practice Monday, April 22 and go through Friday, May 3. They will resume Friday, May 10 after state tests and go Monday, May 13 through Thursday, May 16. Practice will be 4 to 6:15 every afternoon.

They will play a spring jamboree with Senatobia and Lewisburg, but the place has not been determined.
South Panola has set a date for its spring scrimmage. The Tigers will travel to Northwest Rankin Thursday, May 2 and play Northwest Rankin and Columbus.

Tiger head coach Lance Pogue has not set a date for spring practice to begin.

Football Schedules
North Panola and North Delta have released their fall football schedules. South Panola has one more date to fill, according to Pogue. As soon as that date is filled, he will release the schedule.

Football games are starting later this year. Private schools will start the season August 23.

Public schools can play classic games on August 23 in all six classes. First game for 2A, 3A and 4A is August 30. First game for 1A, 5A and 6A is September 6. These class groups can play classic games August 29-Aug. 31.

South Panola
South Panola is going back to the past and opening the season on Thursday night. On August 29, South Panola will host West Point. The teams have opened the season the last two years on Saturday.

“It will be a big crowd and fun night to open the season at home,” Pogue said.

Playoffs start November 15 and the state championships will be played Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7.

North Panola
In the meantime, North Panola will open its season at home in a classic game with Rosa Fort of Tunica. For the first time in a lot of years, North Panola will not have an open date and have a 11-game schedule.

The Cougars, under second year head coach Derek King, will play five home games and six away games. Homecoming will be October 11 against Palmer and senior night will be the next week against Water Valley. The Cougars end the regular season on the road at Independence, November 1. Playoffs begin November 8.

North Delta
North Delta will open the season at home Friday, August 23, hosting 3A Pillow Academy.

The Green Wave, under second year head coach Brandon Ciaramitaro, will play a 10-game season with no open dates. Playoffs begin November 1 with state championships being played Thursday and Friday, November 21 and 22.
