Richard Maurice Allan Jr.

SARDIS– Richard Maurice Allan Jr., 28, died Thursday, August 5, 2010.

Services were Thursday at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Cedrick Jackson officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Allen, born Dec. 8, 1981, to Richard Allen Sr. and Ida Mae Allen of Sardis, attended North Panola School. He was a factory worker and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors along with his parents include: five daughters, Chemauria Allan and Chekymbria Allen, both of Forth Worth, Texas, Amerra Allan and Aniya Aaron, both of Sardis and Teylor Allan of Courtland and two sons, RaTravion Allan and Richard Allan, both of Sardis.

 

Leslie Chapman

OXFORD– Leslie Chapman, 38, formerly of PanolaCounty, died July 30, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Saturday at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Golden officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home had charge.

He is survived by his brother, Joe Wright of Batesville.

Moses Phillips

OXFORD– Moses Phillips, 82, formerly of Panola County, died July 31, 2010, at Graceland Care Center in Oxford.

Services were held at Philadelphia M.B. Church. Rev. Eric Wilson officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home had charge.

Phillips was a retired grounds keeper.

Survivors include: his wife, Thelma Phillips of Oxford; three daughters, Lora Williams of Oxford and Debra Parks and Martha Frierson of Indianapolis, Ind.; four sons, Elton Moses Phillips of Mayersville, L.V. Phillips of Abbeville, Daniel Phillips of Thaxton and Howard Phillips of Oxford; four sisters, Helen Caldwell of Water Valley and Lida Phillips of Memphis, Catherine Hervey of Oxford and Martha Phillips of California; two brothers, Earnest Phillips of Oxford, Larry Phillips of Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Eunice Smith

OXFORD– Eunice Evelyn Lavelle Smith, 88, widow of James Vanley Smith, died Sunday August 8, 2010, at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Batesville.  

Graveside services were held Wednesday, August, 11, at the Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery in Millington, Tenn. Mr. Ronnie McLilly officiated.  Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Smith was born June 13, 1922, in Burlison, Tenn. to Ruben and Edith Boswell Lavelle. She was a homemaker and a member of the Millington Church of Christ in Millington, Tenn.

    Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Edith Boswell Lavelle; her husband, James Vanley Smith; one daughter, Pamela Smith Tichener.

    Survivors include four daughters; Ann Smith Huggins of Brighton, Tenn.; Judy Smith Holcomb of Batesville, Jean Smith Bell of Courtland, and Betty Smith Tucker of Memphis; four sons; Billy Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, Mickey Smith of Marietta, Ga., Jimmy Smith and James Smith, Jr., both of Millington, Tenn.; one sister, Joyce Lavelle Ward of Covington, Tenn.; one brother, Richard Lavelle of Burlison, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Abe Young

OXFORD– Abe Young, 77, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, at his residence.

Services will be held Saturday at noon at Zion Hill Barr M.B. in Senatobia. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Young was a member of Zion Hill Barr M.B. Church in Senatobia.

Survivors include: his wife, Bernice Jackson Young of Coldwater; four daughters, Mariel Jean Young of Coldwater, Bernita Smith of Senatobia, Eloise Jones of Chicago and Louise Webb of Holly Springs; nine sons, B.J. Jackson of Senatobia, J.W. Jackson of Como, Henry Young Jr. and Sylvester Young, both of Coldwater, Andrew Young of Killeen, Texas, Lavern Young of Calhoun City, Raney Young of Charleston, S.C., Robert Young of Kansas City and Charles Wright of Memphis and one brother Lonnie George Young of Abbeville; 53 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren.
