As new year roles around, Panolian prepares for news

Whether it was dignitaries passing through, leaders passing away, ordinary people doing the extraordinary or everyday people doing everyday things, the staff members of The Panolian attempted to give our readers a glimpse of Panola County twice each week in these pages last year.

The daughter of a former American president and then the major party nominees for the presidency passed through our little corner of the world.

We also experienced the passing of two local public servants within a short period time that changed the face of politics in Panola County.

But we also reported peaches being picked, musicians making music, skate boarders doing their stunts, preachers preaching, children playing, athletes striving, patriots being patriotic, teachers teaching and kids being kids.

We reported on elected officials tending to the people’s business, law enforcement locking up people who did not abide by the law, judges judging, mommas mothering, workers working and more.

When we offer our opinion we try to keep it on the opinion pages and offer our readers the opportunity to do the same in the form of a Letter to the Editor.

But most of all we try to report about local people doing local things. Nobody else cares to do it and we think we do it better than anybody else.

Happy New Year, Panola County. And we sincerely wish that the new year’s news is all good.
