Helmet Letter

I would like to tell you about something that happened to me so that people will understand why some laws really need to be upheld!
On June 25, my husband and I were going to Eureka Springs for a motorcycle show. We live in Mississippi which has a helmet law and in Arkansas you don’t have to wear one. As we were coming into a little town called Cherry Valley, my husband Jim slowed down to the speed limit of 45 m.p.h. and the next thing I knew I was waking up on the pavement on my back wondering what I was doing there. Jim had just ran up to me after getting the bike and trailer pulled over and I saw the horror in his eyes of what just happened!
I had somehow fallen off of the bike — just a few minutes before that I had gotten real sick and nauseous and then I passed out — I was hurting pretty bad all over except for my head — my helmet was still on and not a bruise or bump was on my head. My Guardian Angel was with me that day for sure!
The ambulances finally came and also five police cars. At the hospital in Jonesboro, they must have taken a ka-zillion x-rays and found out that I only had three broken bones in my foot and a million bruises and scrapes.
I will say this for the rest of my life – that wearing that helmet did save my life!
I want to tell everyone that PLEASE wear a helmet. No matter what you are riding, put it on!
Thank you,
Bea Hardin
