Patricia Sanetta Reeves Bentley

COURTLAND––Patricia Sanetta Reeves Bentley, 38, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, from injuries obtained during an automobile accident.

Services are Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Dr. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Bentley, born February 1, 1970, to the late Jessie Marie Harrell and St. Mark Reeves of Southaven, was employed with the South Panola school district as a school bus driver. She was a member of West Batesville Pentecostal Church.

Survivors along with her father include: her step-mother, Beatrice Reeves of Southaven; one son, Emmanuel Montrell Bentley; her grandmother, Alberta Harrell of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three brothers, Marcus Reeves and Derrick Reeves, both of Southaven and Mark Timothy Reeves of Grand Rapids, Mich. and three sisters, Shakeela Reeves of Southaven, Lakeshua Johnson of Memphis and Ryan Percival of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Robert Junior Bonner

ENID––Robert Junior Bonner, 66, died March 1, 2008.

Services were Monday at Bethel Methodist Church in Enid. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

Bonner was a mechanical engineer.

Survivors include: his wife,  Gloria Lewis Bonner of Enid; one daughter, Sherry Bonner Willis of Batesville; four sisters, Betty Jean Moore of Pelahatchie, Ruth May Taylor  and Linda Gail Gatlin, both of Ripley and Martha Irene Carrigan of Middleton, Tenn. and three grandchildren.


Birdia Bell  Robertson Ellis

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Birdia Bell Robertson Ellis, 58, died Friday, February 22, 2008 in Fort Worth. Funeral services were Thursday, February 28 at Shiloh M. B. Church.

Pastor Daydid Griggs Jr. of Zion Baptist Church in Rowlett, Texas, officiated. Interment followed in the Viney Creek Cemetery. M.J. Edwards Funeral Home of Memphis was in charge.

Ellis, born February 26, 1950 to Will Earnest Robertson Sr. and Birdia Lee Robertson of Batesville, was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She was a former member of Shiloh M.B. Church of Courtland and Viney Creek M.B. Church of Batesville.

Survivors in addition to her parents include her husband Marshall Ellis of Fort Worth; three daughters, Brian and Stephanie Gibbs of Queens Village, New York; LaShonda Ellis of Rowlett; and Monika Ellis of Silver Springs, Md.; three sisters, Elnora Biggs of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Gloria Burleson of Fort Belvoir, Va.; Kassandra Faye Robertson of Batesville; one brother Will E. “Pete” Robertson Jr.; mother-in-law Ethel Ellis of Sardis; and four grandchildren.


Martha Gammill Hood

LAMBERT––Martha Gammill Hood, 65, died Friday, February 29, 2008, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks. She was the mother of Cynthia Jones of Sardis.

Services were Sunday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale. Jerry Hill officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Hood, born Nov. 13, 1942, in Anguilla, was a homemaker.

Survivors along with her daughter, include her husband, James Robert Hood of Lambert; one son, Tommy Hood of Hayesville, N.C.; three sisters, Barbara Harvey, Kay Gammill and Diane Gammill, all of Greenville and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Quitman County Nursing Home.

Madie Phillips

MEMPHIS––Madie Phillips, 90, formerly of Courtland, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at her residence.

Services were Sunday at Olive Ray M.B. Church. Rev. L.C. Smith officiated. Burial was in Olive Ray Cemetery in Pope. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Phillips, born Dec. 20, 1917, in Batesville, to the late Willie Henderson and the late Lena Middleton, was a homemaker and a member of Olive Ray M.B. Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Velma M. Martin and Irma Cathey, both of Memphis and Ilene Shegog of Enid; four sons, Robbie Phillips, Bobby Phillips, Charles Russell Phillips, all of Memphis and Preston Phillips of Chicago, Ill.; 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.


Urna Lea Smith

COMO––Urna Lea Smith, 87, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Northwest Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Methodist Church in Clarksdale. Burial will be in Longtown Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.

Smith, born to the late Andy and Ida Oriole Kelly Wright, was a member of the Crusaders Class at St. Paul Methodist Church in Clarksdale. She was a member of Longtown Methodist Church. She graduated from Crenshaw High School and Draughns Business College.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Evander Franklin Smith.

Survivors include: one daughter, Dr. Andrea Lee Smith of Clarksdale; one sister, Mildred Wright Dye of Memphis and one grandson.
