SP softball ladies remain undefeated

The South Panola Lady Tiger fastpitch team remains undefeated after some tough competition in the Grenada Tournament Saturday.

Saturday morning the No. 48 nationallly ranked Lady Tigers (5-0) faced Brandon and escaped with a 1-0 win. South Panola had eight hits, but could only get one run across.

Head coach Ashleigh Hicks said she was very upset to leave that many runners on base.

Senior third baseman Haylei Plummer hit her second triple of the season. She also hit a single and scored the only run of the game.

Second baseman Kasey Kelsay had two hits. Getting one hit each were Whitney Kiihnl, Casi Brooks, Ellen Farrish and Haley Hood.

Kiihnl pitched the complete game in six innings for the win. She fanned 16 batters and allowed one walk.

Saturday evening, the Lady Tigers went against New Hope and shut them out 7-0.

The Lady Tigers have only allowed one run early in this season. South Panola scored two runs in the first inning and remained scoreless until the sixth where they scored their last five runs.

Getting hits were Kiihnl, 2/4 with one walk, two runs; Haylei Plummer, 1/4, one hit by pitch, two runs; Brooks, 2/4; Hillari Plummer, 1/3, one run; Jennifer Newcomb, 1/3, one run; and Haley Hood, 2/3, one run.

Kiihnl pitched the complete game in six innings for the win, fanning 12 batters.

So far this season, Kiihnl has 62 strikeouts, no runs, no hits, no errors and three walks.

The game with Southaven scheduled for last Friday was rained delayed. A makeup date will be announced later.

The Lady Tigers will face Cleveland today in non-conference action at 6 p.m. following the junior varsity game.
