Karate clubs win again

Karate boasts 2 grand champions

Members of the Batesville Karate Club and Quitman County Martial Arts traveled to Greenwood Saturday, May 12 for the “Thunderbolt Connection ‘07” Karate Tournament.

This was the third and final tournament of the spring series, sponsored by the Southern Martial Arts, Inc.

There were approximately 200 competitors competing in kata, sparring and weapon events.

Quitman County had two state grand champion winners in their categories, Michael Cook, Red Belt Men’s and Russell Furr Jr, 6,7,8-year-old category.

Trophy winners from the Batesville Club include J.D. Mills third in forms and sparring; Kevin Nendza, first in sparring, second in forms; and Braliegh Sanders, first in forms, third in sparring.

Trophy winners from the Quitman County Club are Michael Cook, second in forms, first in sparring, third in weapons; Lacambrise Webb, third in forms, first i n sparring; Johnny Webb, second in forms, first in sparring; Kalvin Flowers Jr., second in forms, first in sparring; Velma Webb, third in forms, first in sparring; Antonio Hoskins Jr., second in forms, first in sparring, Jawon Allen, third in forms, first in sparring and Russell Furr Jr., first in forms and sparring.
