A high school student entered a guilty plea to having a weapon on school property during Batesville Municipal court Wednesday.
Henry Ford Jr., 150 MLK, Batesville, told Judge Bill McKenzie that he had a pocket knife in his possession.
"It was in my brother’s pants that I was wearing," said Ford.
The judge responded by reading the affidavit that stated Ford tried to hide the knife in his waist band.
"With all the things happening at school these days, we cannot have weapons at school," the judge told Ford.
He imposed a fine of $265.
Grand jury Reginald Hoskins, 335 Shamrock, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for aggravated assault, possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana-simple and possession of paraphernalia.
Hoskins requested a bond reduction from the original $25,000 bond. His request was granted and his bond was lowered to $7,500.
Pamela Nissen, 14 CR 528, Harmon town, was referred to the grand jury for grand larceny.
Christopher Walls, 525 Sara Dickens Rd., Sardis, was referred to the grand jury for aggravated assault.
Simple assault Yosheya Williams, 219 E. Lee St., Sardis, had a simple assault and petit larceny case continued for further investigation.
The affiant, Melva Elrod, said that Wal-Mart had a tape proving that Williams was guilty of taking a cell phone and assault.
Stephanie Dupree, 320 Wood Rd., Pope, had a simple assault by threat case dismissed after the affiant Brandy McCrory failed to appear to prosecute.
Contempt of court Mahogany Winston, P.O. Box 504, Duck Hill, had old fines of $1,114 that have been due since May 1999. The judge would not release her from the custody of the Sheriff’s Department, explaining that she has had several years to take care of this old fine.
Winston said, "I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and I haven’t worked for five years."
"You have had seven years to take care of this fine," said McKenzie.
"Can I work on the city work program?" asked Winston.
"You have health problems, you can’t work," the judge responded.
The judge told Winston that she could be released from custody if she paid the fine in full.
Rachel Tutor, 101 Flower Rd., Courtland, failed to appear for contempt of court-old fines of $451 that have been due since May 2006.
A warrant was issued for her arrest.
John C. Barnes, 1978 Tony Keating Rd., Batesville, was ordered to serve 90 days in jail for old fines of $615 that have been due since April 2004.
Ollie Hall, 130 Patton Lane, Batesville, had old fines of $453 that have been due since December 2005 and a new fine of $304 for possession of paraphernalia.
She told the judge she could pay her fines in 30 days.
Melvin Holmes, 212 Noble St., Batesville, was sentenced to 90 days in jail, which he already served while awaiting trial, for contempt of court-old fines of $385 that have been due since March 2004.
Jessica Jones, 1592 Whitten Rd., Courtland, had old fines of $3,050 that have been due since June 2005.
She was told to have the fines paid in full before she could be released from jail.
Ronald Lancaster, Sardis, was told if he had his old fines of $2,002 paid in full he could be released from jail.
Reginald Taylor was released from jail after he served 90 days to satisfy contempt of court fines of $3,974.
Other Adrian McCraney, 125 1/2 MLK, Batesville, paid his fine of $2,195 in full prior to court for DUI-other, no driver’s license and no proof of insurance.
Della Johnson, 334-B Butler Rd., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting at Vanity Fair. She was fined $610.
Catherine Bright, 5416 Barnacre Rd., Batesville, failed to appear for charges of false pretenses.
The case of Christopher Woods, 106 Jones St., Batesville, has been continued. He is charged with several vehicular violations.
Roman Milam, 611 Shiloh Rd., Courtland, was found guilty of possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. He was fined $605.
Courtney Rudd, 236-B MLK, Batesville, faces a trial on January 17. She is charged with possession of marijuana.
Willie Smith of 253 Willow Dr., Senatobia, had a trial date set. He is charged with disorderly conduct.
Marcus Griffin of 1254 Shiloh Rd., Courtland, was found guilty of domestic violence, failure to stop for emergency vehicle, running from blue lights, reckless driving and improper passing. He was fined $798.
Charges dismissed Judge McKenzie dismissed charges of running a stop sign and no child restraint filed against Christy Parker.
Tickets William E. Doyle, 214 Claude St., Batesville, was fined $281 for no driver’s license.
Christopher V. Owens, 662 Bill Wallace Road, Sardis, was fined $281 for no driver’s license.
Rapheal Thomas, 329 Camille St., Sardis, was fined $281 for no driver’s license. Judge McKenzie dismissed a second charge, no insurance, after Thomas provided proof he has his vehicle insured.
Sandra R. Hervey of 111 Chittlin Circle, Water Valley, was fined $864 for no driver’s license and no insurance.
Stephanie Frost, 2559-A Hentz Road, Courtland, was fined $406 for driving without insurance, no tag and no child restraint. The insurance fine was reduced after Frost showed proof she now has insurance.
Timothy L. Hill of 117 Dickey Drive, Batesville, pleaded not guilty to a charge of speeding and will be tried on January 10.
Willie Reed of 464 White Rd., Lambert, was fined $356 for driving while his license was suspended.
Trevor J. Tutor of 1723 Melrose Rd., Como, was fined $445 for charges of careless driving, no insurance and loud music. The lower insurance fine was reduced after Tutor showed proof he now has insurance.
Johnny K. Ellington, 134 Askew St., Water Valley, was fined $767 for expired tag and no insurance.
Carlton J. Wilkinson, 489 S. College St., Grenada, was fined $696 for speeding and no proof of insurance. |
