Panola County under burn ban
By Rupert Howell
A burn ban has been requested by Panola Supervisors to the Mississippi Forestry Commission during Monday’s meeting at the request of Panola County Emergency Management Director Daniel Cole.
The ban will be in place until Monday, November 7 when supervisors hold their next monthly meeting in Sardis.
The ban exempts the Forestry Commission and agricultural field burning as long as personnel and equipment are on site to control the intentional burn.
The burn ban follows a long, hot, dry summer with unseasonably high temperatures that have continued into fall with more of the same predicted in coming days. Temperatures are expected to reach 90 for the next three days and no rain is expected in the near future. Cooler temps are predicted for the weekend.
