Wreck on Goodhope kills driver

By John Howell
A Saturday afternoon vehicle accident on Good Hope Road killed one driver and left another driver and his passenger injured.
Deputy Sheriff John Still said that Jesse James Watson, 61, 1928 Good Hope Road, Batesville, was transported to the Med in Memphis where he later died.
The other driver, Jacob Charles Warren, 21, was also transported to the Med where he was determined to be in critical condition, Still said. Warren’s driver’s license showed a Pontotoc address, but he is believed to have recently lived in Panola County. A five-year-old passenger in Warren’s vehicle  was transported from the scene in a private vehicle with undetermined injuries.
Watson was traveling north on Good Hope Road in his 2004 GMC truck, about one-third mile south of its intersection with Mt. Olivet Road. Warren was traveling in the opposite direction in his 2004 Olds when the two vehicles collided, according to Still.
The deputy said that he had been able to determine that Watson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision but the use of restraints on the other victims had not been determined.
