Watch for city, MDOT paving on Eureka Street

By John Howell
The Mississippi Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) project to mill and repave Eureka Street will coincide with City of Batesville street paving projects handled by Lehman-Roberts Paving Contractor, district engineer Mitch Turner said.
MDOT has hired the private contractor to pave the approximately 1,800 feet of Eureka Street between the Square and Highway 6 that are state-maintained, Turner said.
City projects scheduled to begin within a few days include the realignment of Eureka Street from its entrance to the Square to the railroad crossing. During the construction, traffic through the Square at that rail crossing will be detoured, according to assistant City Engineer Henry Lawson of Mendrop Engineering.
On Monday, MDOT crews and equipment were seen working in Sand Creek near the southeast quadrant of the Highway 6 and 51 intersection. Turner said that MDOT was responding to a city request to remove silt from a box culvert to improve drainage. Crews will also slope ditch banks and add rip rap to stabilize banks of the creek, according to Turner.
