ND drop back-to-back games in doubleheader

By Will Dickens
North Delta played host to Kirk Academy for two District varsity games Wednesday night and lost both games with scores being 10-1 and 17-12.  This puts North Delta in a hole at 0-3 to start district play.
Kirk Academy 10, ND 1
The first inning was a difficult one for the Green Wave.  Kirk Academy jumped out to a 5-0 lead i on two hits, two walks, and one batter hit by a pitch.
North Delta left one man on base, but could not get him home.  North Delta’s lone run came in the second inning after a double play got them out of a jam.
Zach Adams led the inning off with a single.  Ethan Calvert continued his hot streak and had one of his two singles.
Cole Devazier would bring Adams in with a single but would get thrown out at second after the run scored.
Devazier left the game after the inning for a head injury from Tuesday night.  He joined Lige Simmerman on the injured list, out with flu-like symptoms.
With two starters out of the game, the score would remain 5-1 for the rest of the game.  In the sixth inning, Kirk Academy threatened to score but North Delta got out of it with a strikeout and another double play at home plate.
The top of the seventh was a different story as the Raiders scored five runs to shut the door on the Green Wave and close out the game 10-1.
North Delta had four hits: Calvert (2), Adams (1), and Devazier (1).  The one RBI belonged to Devazier.
Kirk 17, ND 12
The second game was more like Tuesday night’s game.  It was a back and forth game with ND coming back to tie the game late before Kirk Academy blew it open with a big seventh inning.
Tyler Holland made a great diving play at Centerfield in the first inning, but it came at a cost.  He hurt his knee and would sit the rest of the game.
With three starters gone, North Delta fell behind 3-0 after two and a half innings.  They surged back in the third inning to take the lead with six runs.  Luke Noah, Jones Montgomery, Hunter Baker, Bailey Ross, and Ethan Calvert started the inning on five consecutive singles.
Hayden Hankins did not stop the barrage with a double to keep it going.  Hunter Houston walked, but Zach Adams would add one more single after the walk.
Eight consecutive hitters reached base with seven of them being hits.
Of course, Kirk Academy would not go away quietly.  They answered with seven runs to take back the lead.
North Delta still showed no quit.  There was still a lot of game left.  The Green Wave scratched one across with a two out double by Ross.
He would score on a groundball through the legs of the second baseman to bring the score to 10-7.
North Delta took the lead again in the fifth with four runs. Adams walked. Noah singled with one out.
Montgomery and Baker followed them up with singles.  All four would score.  The scoring ended after Ross had a sac fly for an RBI to right field.
The score was 11-10 going into the sixth.  The Raiders scored two more to regain the lead before North Delta scored one more in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 12-12.  Zack Dugger scored on an RBI walk by Ross.
Kirk Academy crushed all hopes for victory with five runs in the top of the seventh and last inning
North Delta did not quit but could not find a way to score in the bottom half of the
