Walkers gathered last Saturday morning at Trussell Park to launch the 2015 Denim and Pearls Walk.

After a several-year hiatus, the Denim and Pearls Breast Cancer Awareness Walk took place last Saturday at Trussell Park, where about 30 walkers, clad in pink and clutching balloons, joined together in a 5K walk/run that raised $1,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Organizer Angie Inman called on local American Cancer Society Relay for Life teams to participate in the event. Refreshments were provided by Relay for Life teams and local businesses. The Aaron E. Henry Community Health Center lent a hand by providing a tent and breast cancer educational materials.

Inman said she hopes to double the collections next year.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
